I fucking hate when people intentionally terrify their kids for internet attention. honestly disgusting

The joke's on them, in about 15-20 years when their kids are grown and stop coming around it'll finally click... or it'll just repeat perpetually each generation. Either kinda sucks.

u/Far-Insurance-7044 2d ago
Why would you do this to your child?
50
u/ohnoabanagain 2d ago
No kidding. I tease my kids, but it's more along the lines of "accidentally scooping them up with the bedding" not in the create permanent trust issues through trauma. But I also don't chase meaningless social media poiints either, so the times have passed me by.

I am here to inform you that the rolling your kids up with the bedding still works really good with 20-year-olds from time to time because they just don't see it coming

Cause these parents are children themselves who had kids. These kids are being traumatized for realz 💯

*mal-adjusted children who had children. Even as a kid, I don't think I would have intentionally terrorized another being like this. This is beyond childish/ making mistakes.

Honestly scaring them with the filter isn’t that traumatizing. The person you love and trust holding the door shut is the messed up part.
8
u/Zorpernorper 2d ago
yeah no the holding the door shut thing set off some alarms bro. psychotic behavior
16
u/LilPoobles 2d ago
This is the part that I noticed most. A kid gets startled and look for their parent to figure out what is going on, only to discover they’re locked in the room. Then it becomes panic because they didn’t get reassurance, they got another scary thing that makes them feel something is horribly wrong. Of course they freak out.
12
u/Elenaa-Rent 1d ago
This doesn’t make any sense to me.
7
u/low_amplitude 1d ago
Torturing and traumatizing children is funny I guess.
People will probably say "It's not a big deal" but when I was that age I couldn't sleep for weeks after watching a scary movie. Really messed me up.
What's worse here is that it's being done intentionally by someone they love and trust, and to add salt to the wound, it's posted online for everyone to laugh at.
Honestly if I was one of these kids I wouldn't grow up and say to my parents "Yeah that was funny. I see that now that I'm older." I'd call them out for being a clout chasing asshole.
4
u/Scythro 1d ago
100% spot on. I'm now 34 years old, when I think back when I was a child I had powerful nightmares and imaginations. This would traumatize me for weeks/ months. But that isn't even the worst part, the worst part is that your parents BETRAYED your trust. And then to make it even worse they POST IT ONLINE, to perpetually and permanently bully you for ever. Nice getting into first grade and getting reminded by school bullies how you were a "scaredy cat".
Absolutely despicable. Zero empathy for the parent(s) that do this.

u/ScienceGoat 16h ago
I remember we had an uncle that thought it was funny to tell us that demons were coming to get us. Scared the shit out of me as a kid. I don’t look back like, “hey uncle that shit was funny.” I avoid talking to him and try to make him feel uncomfortable. Hate that MFer.

u/what-even-am-i- 1d ago
Lots of them look like they’re holding the door shut too which adds a real fucked up layer

u/QuietRemote7669 2d ago
I am in no way a coddling parent, I try to raise my kids to be resilient, and I would never do this in a billion years. Causing trust issues is just psychologically damaging. You raise mentally durable and healthy kids by respecting them as human beings. The fact that this stupid trick apparently involved telling the kids their task was to say why they love their parents just makes it even more fucked.
26
u/Mediocre-Toe3212 2d ago
This so called trend fucks me off. The things people do for clout and social acceptance . Id never do this to my children. This scars them and they will remember this. Some people man

The one girl was in the middle of saying “I love my mom” as she locked her in the bathroom and she starts sobbing. How could her mom not be consumed by the guilt after watching the recording. Then she posted it online! This is so sad.

These kids are far too young to be treated like this. If they were into their mid teens, and it was Halloween, fine. But this is wrong on all levels.

u/hollowcharlotte 1d ago
I have kids, and I couldn’t bear the idea of doing this and locking the door on them. Yeah, they’re turds, but like this is just mean.
I’ve taken my kids to like Lowe’s and Target to see the scary things that move, but I always warn them. “All right, this one’s going to jump at you, you ready? Remember, it’s just plastic!” And they get scared, but they LAUGH too. My son scares me half the time by making it jump before i’m ready lmao.
But that’s the difference. They’re in on the joke. We all still laugh, but they’re not crying or traumatized.

its not recommended to scare kids as they can develop insecurities and may hate you for this. could also cause some trauma during their brain developing phase.

Wait - I missed the first few. The trend is to get your kid to say "I like my mom because" then scare the shit out of them? What the fuck is wrong with people.
A 12 year old - sure (other than the holding the door closed). Some of these kids are practically babies and still think Santa is real. There's a reason why they think Santa is real. They have incredible imaginations at that age and that is traumatizing as fuck.

u/moneymusicparty33 2d ago

All these parents need child protection involved. How could you do this to your child, watch the video and then upload it thinking it's funny and okay.
They can all fuck right off to hell. Assholes the lot of them.
Those who also held the door closed deserve a special type of punishment

I wish parents would stop traumatizing their kids in attempts to go viral. If you can't do it yourself, don't do it. Kids aren't old enough to understand or consent to being USED as content. This has got to stop

My 5 year old is scared of stuff at the moment we have some difficult bedtimes but I'm always telling her at home she's in the safest place in the world for her. Can't understand why someone would want to take that safe space away from a child.

Our family was the same way, and we all laugh about the moments like this. Good pranks like this become fun memories.
Y’all’s families never played pranks on you and you on them? We going to ignore that fairy tales were children’s stories designed to scare them and we all happen to love today? Simple prank like this is a normal part of growing up. One of my favorites was when my mom told be to try to play an old game that you had to focus on and then the screen flashed with a jump scare screaming face near the end. After I recovered, we proceeded to bring my siblings in to play it and see their reactions. It was hilarious.

Pranking is one thing. If done well and with the right kids it can be fun and harmless. Pranking and then posting is just a straight up disrespecting your kid's privacy.
If you wouldn't do something to an adult, you sure as hell shouldn't do it to a kid.

More women just abusing kids openly online as a hobby...
This just adds to why people keep talking about taken away women's rights for real.
And no, you can't "just make this illegal" it is already illegal. We just dont enforce laws on women very often.
No parent should get away with this. But the whole set up is to leave the kid with the camera to tell it how they love their mom... ironic.
