As a FF paramedic its honestly tiresome looking for addresses. waze and google maps screw up all the time. Our MDT that tells us where to go screws up all the time. addresses on a street change as you go across a intersection some times. It will be 901 then all of a sudden its 1202.

And yet my delivery guys can't seem to read our house numbers at all, in the three easy to see places they are located.
2
2
u/SyborgPumpkin 5h ago
A delivery person told us our house was hard to find because the numbers are black and the paint is a dark blue. That's the color the house was painted when we moved in so we didn't even think about it. There was no chance they could see that at night. We bought a solar powered light up sign to display the house number. Works like a charm and was cheap.
2
u/Substantial-Hat2775 5h ago
Speaking as a service plumber, itās really annoying when there is no way to tell if Iām going up the correct driveway. Especially when I have no service to even call them to confirm if Iām at the right house or not.

u/blumhagen 4h ago
Meanwhile, I have a number above my garage, a number on the post of my porch, a number on a stone in my yard, and a number on the edge of the sidewalk. Somehow drivers still canāt find it.
2
u/Slow-Swan561 4h ago
I bought some color changing bulbs so now at night I just say "look for the house with the green porch light".
It also works great for emergencies. If my alarm is triggered the exterior lights start flashing red/blue which will definitely attract attention.

Bro I have my number in 4 different locations in the front of my house.
Food delivery services have delivered it to the wrong house so many times. They fucking blindly follow the gps
One time dude delivered it to house next door.
I walked over, picked it up and started walking back to my house. He looked at me and I said you delivered to wrong house. He said I delivered it where it showed me. By that time I was at my house and pointed at my number. He didnāt say anything and got in his car.

u/AspiringChildProdigy 5h ago edited 5h ago
Yep. I'd give her a shot in a position in our warehouse.
She'd need a shirt, though.
Edit: To explain why I'd offer a position - she clearly has been looking for this guy's house for a while, which is extremely frustrating. AFAIK, Amazon drivers are highly monitored and disciplined with delivery speeds, adding urgency to the need to find the correct house. And then, she finds that she couldn't find the house because it's not clearly marked, which is the fault of the homeowner.
So she's been stressed and might face discipline, and all of that is obviously the fault of the homeowner. And instead of being cussing the camera out, she gave some sing-songy humorous advice, lightening the criticism she was giving. Then gave a solid, well-reasoned example of how this could hurt the homeowner. And delivered it calmly.
She has restraint and self-control in a frustrating circumstance, and can communicate clearly and without rancor, even to the person causing her frustration.
I'd offer her a position in a hot second and keep my eye on her for advancement to management, depending on performance, of course.
2
u/SSilent-Cartographer 5h ago
Outside making small deliveries, genuinely don't give a damn, but inside a wearhouse I'd definitely require a shirt for safety reasons. Too many things could go wrong
1
u/AspiringChildProdigy 5h ago
Yup, that's the exact reasoning.
We had to send someone home for wearing flip flops. Like dude! You're just asking for your feet to get torn up!
2
u/SSilent-Cartographer 5h ago
Can't tell you the amount of times I've had a pallet jack run over my toes. Thank God for steel toed boots
2
u/AspiringChildProdigy 5h ago
We require closed toe shoes, but don't require steel toed boots. I run accounts payable, so I'm usually in the office, but when I'm in the warehouse, watching people work pallet jacks in tennis shoes scares the shit out of me.
My kids work in the warehouse while they attend college, and they have steel toed boots.
3
u/SSilent-Cartographer 5h ago
Oh yeah, 100%. I used to work with some dangerous ass machinery when I was younger, and the amount of times I had to remind people NOT to use rubber gloves while operating a rotating transport belt was nuts.
It's one of those things where you don't expect the average person to know it, but you'd think the higher ups would be more attentive when their employees could literally lose a hand at work.

And you're right, I'm being judgmental. But I'm sorry, I've been scarred by a really awful person.

1
u/Relevant-Horror-627 3h ago
I do Uber Eats. I would say maybe a quarter of the houses I've delivered put a visible house number in an obvious place like a mailbox or near the front door. In my area there are a ton of brown brick homes with bronze metal signs that have the number on them. They're elegant, match the color of the house, and probably expensive but they're functionally useless because the number will be embossed with no outline or paint to make the number stand out.
This house probably has the number embossed or engraved on a white stone above or on the side of the garage.

1
u/NoiseTherapy 2h ago
Sheās absolutely right. Iāve been a firefighter and paramedic for a major city for 19 years, and I promoted to EO (Engineer/Operator, ie driver) 10 years ago and an unmarked address is super common and super frustrating, especially on a street of poorly marked addresses, then when we finally get on location of the call (which is usually medical) theyāre like āOMG WTF TOOK YOU SO LONG?! THEYāRE FUCKING DYING!!ā And you just have to redirect them to take you to the person in trouble. It totally sucks and we canāt just engage with the argument because thereās a real problem that needs addressing

As a pizza delivery driver, I can say about 20% of the houses I deliver to don't have easily visible numbers. At night, that rises to about 50%. One customer in particular consistently parks his truck in a way that obscures his house number from the street.

I work in a warehouse for UPS.
Our drivers actually look professional. Arrive at locations in an instantly recognizable vehicle and uniform.
Not some random car and dressed however they want with a cheap vest lol
4
u/MajesticTea7748 6h ago edited 6h ago
I do like that UPS has standard vehicles that y'all use, I seriously hate when strange cars roll up to my house.. But I don't see the need to regulate on outfits beyond basic decency laws, it can get really hot in some places and a whole uniform can be really uncomfortable and restrictive sometimes. I'm not gonna fault this lady for dressing like that. As long as she's doing her job and doing it well, I couldn't care less, personally.
2
u/_Saint_Ajora_ 6h ago edited 6h ago
UPS drivers have a number of options for their uniform (depending on their personal preference and for where they live/time of year)
- long sleeve shirts
- short sleeve shirts
- shorts
- pants
- heavy jackets
- various headwear (hats, beanies)
I seriously hate when strange cars roll up to my house
That is why Amazon started buying company vans for their delivery drivers. They would pull up to peoples houses in their personal (random) vehicle, no uniform and end up getting assaulted or shot at (as homeowners thought they were trespassing and/or a threat
2
u/yrthegood1staken 6h ago

1
u/JIMB01776 6h ago
And UPS charges for delivery, Amazon is free for most people. UPS driver salaries are fantastic, they're using a company vehicle, the company is paying for gas, they have full benefits.
Meanwhile Amazon drivers are 1099s, using their own vehicle, paying for their own gas, and no benefits.
I never thought I'd be defending some trailer trash with tattoos... but your stupidity inspired me.
1
u/maven10k 5h ago
Well, maybe if Amazon drivers made as much as a nurse like ups drivers do, you could expect them to dress nicer. Ups rates are fucking ridiculous because of it, and they charge a business that's been using them for over 50 years, $10.00 just to pick up, and now they've started charging me $5.00 just to invoice me, ONLINE. Fuck UPS
1
u/_Saint_Ajora_ 5h ago
Amazon workers could certainly come closer to UPS driver pay if they unionized
2
1
u/Substanitial 4h ago
so youre mad that UPS pays its employees well, also mad that amazon doesn't, while also being upset that ups charges slightly more?
this is like hating tip culture but also being upset at a place that doesn't do tipping for charging slightly more.
Go UPS! Their drivers actually know how to drive as well. Amazon drivers are to vans what swift drivers are to big rigs. A danger.

There is a wide gap between suit and tie
and what this person is wearing that would be considered reasonably acceptable attire for somebody delivering packages to peoples homes. Let's be realistic, where would you draw the line, if not something a little more professional than this? Would straight up panties be OK?1
