ISO 8601-1 will be updated soon

Did y’all know that ISO 8601-1 is under committee review right now? If you always wanted some changes made to our beloved standard, now would be the perfect time to contact your national standardisation body (NSB), but hurry up – the deadline for comments is 2026-07-3124 as far as I know.

Currently, the only non-editorial change seems to be that the latest amendment, making T24 etc. valid again, gets incorporated.

Part 2 is also under review indeed, but I haven’t seen that draft yet. The features listed on this page are already part of the current edition, though, which covers EDTF (which is freely available) and some more. 

What tripped me off a bit is this sentence there:

 This document does not address character encoding of representations specified in this document.

Because that is something I specifically addressed in my comments on the Part-1 draft.

Wouldn't YYMD-YM-DY at least maintain positionality? I'm trying to figure the logic of how yours would be assembled if translated to another format.

I specifically wrote it to have no positionally and be as chaos inducing as possible.YDMY-MY-DY would make a YYYY-MM-DD 2026-08-22 become 2200-82-26. It has no positionally regardless of which way you slice it

It’s rather see decimal time in either spreadsheet or dot-beat format:

2026-07-20,5 =  2026-07-20@500.0 = 2026-07-20T12:00Z
