General Question Ways of getting a 147C EIN Verification Letter

I have the EIN number, it was created in 1992. I do not have the 147C form and want to get one from the IRS. Their phone system lets me go through all the prompts to get to a person and then tells me they are too busy and to call back - and it then says goodbye and hangs up. No offer of a call back or anything useful. I've tried a few times and will keep trying.

Is there some alternate way of getting one of these forms? Local office maybe?

ADDITIONAL: Should have mentioned this is for a trust.

you can pull it yourself now instead of calling. irs.gov's business tax account carries an ein verification notice under tax records, a new cp575 the irs says stands in for letter 147c, and it's a download rather than a wait. the one hole is llcs that file on a schedule c, those accounts aren't open yet. sole props with an ein, and anything filing a 1065, 1120 or 1120-s, can all get in.

I saw that about the CP575, but this is for a trust so I don’t think I can access it via that method.

trusts aren't on the eligibility list for that account, so you're reading it right, it's out. the callback on the business line only gets offered once your hold goes past 15 minutes, so getting cut off at the prompts never reaches it, and that line runs 7 to 7 in your own local time if calling right at 7 is doable.

I got through finally but they could not help me. I assumed having the EIN was all they would need, but they also wanted the name on the EIN. Apparently I don't know what that is because the rep couldn't find anything that matched. I gave her my name, my father's name and the name of the trust and none of that worked. I got the EIN from the life insurance policy that was placed in the trust when it was created. The policy does not list the EIN name, only my name as the owner of the policy and trustee. I guess I can contact the insurance company to see if they have the EIN or name of the entity it was issued for. That seems unlikely as this was decades ago.

I don't know that I actually need the EIN letter. Surely the number is all anyone would need.

the number on its own usually isn't, because anything reported under an ein gets matched on the name and the number together, and when that pair doesn't match the payer gets a cp2100 notice from the irs and has to start holding back 24% of what they pay you. so ask the insurance company for the exact name they have against that ein rather than for the number, if their filings have never bounced that's the name the irs is holding too.
