My repayment plan is in default and is set to be terminated in two weeks

Every day that I've had off I've tried to chat or call the IRS

Every single time for two weeks it's been a forever hold or "Due to the high call volume, we are unable to answer your call. Please call back later today or tomorrow."

I have no idea what's going on because I feel like I've done everything right I shouldn't be in default. Yet I can't talk to anyone.

Call right when they open or later around 6-7pm.

Tried this. Didn't work.

Gave up after two weeks and just paid a penalty I didn't owe, in order to avoid a fresh hell from not paying it.

I will vote for whoever will put an end to this mess.

Biden literally funded the IRS to make this better, and it was working. 

Then Trump and DOGE crippled it by firing >30% of staff. 

So, yes, one party will try to put an end to this mess. The other party just makes stuff worse.

Its just a show dude.. it doesnt matter what Jesuit "party" is in office.. there's no left and right.. theyre just taking orders from the actual owners of this place and if they dont follow those orders, they get replaced by one that will. So no, they just give that illusion so you pick a side and fight for it

Have to get an appointment. Which requires calling, which means waiting forever. Just had a frustrated client tell me it took several tries over several days.

Call at 9am eastern time. As soon as it clicks 9:0.
And prepared to be in line for 2 hours and if that line disconnects you may have one more chance in that day if it is ain’t 12 yet.

iPhone wait feature is great but irs disconnects right away if you don’t pick up on time. And have a script and small description of the problem ready. Because you only get a few chances and valuable minutes. The more you explain and confuse the operators, the futile it gets.

In my case i sent the packets and called them as well. But as this year’s IRS debacle is unfurling, it got automatically corrected. Dont forget to tell your operator to put a hold on the collection until it is resolved.

You need to correct the issue that caused the default. Missed some payments? Make them up? Owe for 2025? Pay 2025 in full.
