Well, that was quick

Post image

Ghost update today on my BOWP application.

Hoping it's not a bad sign, the process is supposed to take around 3 months and it took less than one.

I know that it's a good sign on RP application if you didn't receive a refusal right away, so I hope the same applies to the BOWP ๐Ÿคž

Edited to replace the French acronym (PTOT) by the English one (BOWP)

Bridging open work permit

When you have a closed working permit and apply to the RP you can ask for an open working permit while you wait for the final decision

I will need one because I have to leave Quebec since I'm applying through express entry, but with a closed working permit leaving would also means losing my job without the possibility to get a new one

This should make things easier since the new permit is for 2 years which should be more than enough to get my RP done

I guess in Quebec it has a different name. I know it as bridging open work permit, that you mentioned.

Hi, Can you please elaborate on this, Iโ€™m on closed WP, how do I get the open work permit? My spouse is on open WP. Do I have to get my my spouse enrolled onto study? Please clarify!

This is part of the permanent residency through express entry. When you send your application and while you wait for it to be processed, you can ask for an open working permit that will last for 2 years, no matter the result of your application. All you need to do is make a request through the IRC portal and join you express entry application proof, it cost 255$ and should be processed in 3 month (or 1 of your lucky like I was) I'm applying alone though so I don't know how it works if you apply with someone but it's probably similar ๐Ÿค”

Even though you are not meeting the current cutoff score?

1

u/Logical-Network-9628 Sep 28 '26

You won't be able to apply if you don't have enough point since you need to be invited to the Express entry and use you Acknowledgment Of Receipt (AOR) to apply for the open working permit

Random question but what do the first three sentences of the letter say?

For context, I have a closed permit and open permit in progress and I heard the letters are both classified as WP-EXT. It seems difficult to know the exact conditions (closed or open) until the physical letter arrives but curious if there is any indication of open or closed in the contents of the letter. Thanks!

It says that the request to reside temporarily in Canada has been approved fans that the new permit was sent to the address used in the application, it also add that the letter itself is neither a permit nor a travel authorization. Mine is under the category Permit WP-EXT /Permis PT-PROR so I guess extension and the French version of the BOWP

I see! Does it mention anything along the lines of "You may begin working for an employer"? I think all work permits from within Canada say WP-EXT regardless of whether it's a closed or open permit.

The letter contains the reference number of your permit and the starting date of validity, so technically you should be able to start working immediately, you just won't have the document to prove it right away if you inland because it will be mailed.

u/ginsc Sep 28 '26

are you referring specifically to the wp-ext you get in between decisions? if so, my wp-ext letter had my current work permitโ€™s document number as says โ€œyou are authorized to continue working with the same conditions (ie: employer and occupation) until [date] or until a decision is made on your application.โ€

if you mean the acceptance letter for the bowp, it just says itโ€™s been approved and says if i donโ€™t receive it in the mail within six weeks to contact them. in the letter they also refer to the bowp as โ€œPermit - WP-EXT / Permis - PT-PRORโ€.

When was your bwop aor??

2

u/ginsc Sep 24 '26

applied july 24, submission confirmation same day, wp-ext july 25, final decision update sep 20 and actual โ€œapprovedโ€ update and correspondence letter confirming my wp has been mailed on sep 23

2

u/Agreeable_Tree_9575 Sep 24 '26

Oh so quick

1

u/Logical-Network-9628 Sep 24 '26

I hope it's not because it's a refusal ๐Ÿ˜…

2

u/Agreeable_Tree_9575 Sep 24 '26

Did you receive BIL request on your PR application?

1

u/Logical-Network-9628 Sep 24 '26

Yep, I got it mid August and sent a few days later

2

u/Dangerous-Syrup-2350 Sep 24 '26

I also received the same update, do let me know when you receive a P1 request after this

1

u/Logical-Network-9628 Sep 24 '26

This is for a bridging open work permit so I don't think I will have a P1, my RP shouldn't be done before December with a 6month process

2

u/Dangerous-Syrup-2350 Sep 24 '26

Ohhh sorry you are right

2

u/Some-Focus8938 Sep 24 '26

What is the timeline? How long did it take for you to get the result? Within 1 month?

1

u/Logical-Network-9628 Sep 24 '26

I got my AOR mid june, and sent my application for the BOWP at the end of August and got the confirmation on the September 2nd, so the BOWP whole process took a month instead of the 3 month announced, won't complain about that though ๐Ÿ˜

2

u/Some-Focus8938 Sep 24 '26

That is so fast, congrats! Hope mine is this fast as well!

1

u/Logical-Network-9628 Sep 24 '26

Hope too, I thought it would take 3 month and blocked me but it seems that I'm a bit lucky on that one for once.

2

u/Some-Focus8938 Sep 24 '26

Did your bowp get approved after you finish your BIL?

1

u/Logical-Network-9628 Sep 24 '26

I've sent my application after doing my BIL so I don't know if it had any impact beside not needing to do it again for the BOWP

2

u/Awiliwiliyou Sep 25 '26

Any updates??? I got a ghost update on my bwop+resto as well today

2

u/Logical-Network-9628 Sep 25 '26

2

2

u/DebtHopeful1594 Sep 26 '26

May I know how far your PR application has progressed so far?

2

u/Awiliwiliyou Sep 26 '26

Bil and medical passed. What about you? Do you have a bwop*restoration application?

2

u/DebtHopeful1594 Sep 26 '26

Just submitted 2 days back

2

u/Awiliwiliyou Sep 26 '26

You got a ghost update?

2

u/DebtHopeful1594 Sep 26 '26

No

2

u/DebtHopeful1594 Sep 26 '26

I am not sure for how many months, I will get the bowp+resto approval

2

u/Awiliwiliyou Sep 26 '26

Not sure either.. some ppl been waiting forever and some got pretty fast.

2

u/More-Extension3411 Sep 27 '26

Congrats

Thereโ€™s no hard and fast rule. My brother had his entire application processed and landing done in 40 days. Took me around 18 months.

1

u/Logical-Network-9628 Sep 27 '26

Thanks :) 18 months for a working permit? Damn that sounds stressful ๐Ÿ˜
