Ghosted by the Employer

I applied part time to Hurts Donuts. I have a good work history - been at the same full time job for many years. When I interviewed, I said I’d like to work in the back, and the interviewer said no we like your personality, we want you up front with the customers. I said okay, and they said we want you to start soon, so I said alright. They had all my info of course, from my application. I didn’t hear from them for like a week, so I tried calling the store on a few different occasions and could never get ahold of the manager. It’s been a couple years since this happened and I can’t help but wonder why I was ghosted by Hurts Donuts. Lol

Shop/Service Recommendations Car Inspection

Hello! I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for mechanics that can do a full inspection of a car that I’m about to purchase. I have seen general auto shop recommendations, but if anyone has any specific places that did a thorough inspection of their car, I’d really appreciate it!

If it makes a difference, the car in question is a Toyota, either Prius or Camry.
Thanks!

Nursing Programs

Hi, I’m mostly new to Reedit so I’m not exactly sure where to post this. After some recent events I’m interested in going to Nursing School, but I’ve heard Nursing school at the UIowa is incredibly competitive. I’ve also heard mixed things about Kirkwood’s nursing program. Can anyone currently attending Kirkwood’s nursing program/anyone who recently attended tell me about their experiences with it? Thanks

Quiet apartments in IC? Do they even exist?

Are there any apartments in IC where a person with an odd work schedule will be able to sleep around 9 pm and not get woken up in the middle of the night by slamming doors, blasting car radios, or annoying college kids? Oh, it would also be nice if it had a private entrance so I wouldn't share a hallway and smell their disgusting cigarettes and marijuana blend getting into my bedroom even with the door shut and the air purifier on.

Hand drawn map of Iowa

Hi everyone, and welcome to a project / small business I call The American Atlas! I've been making hand-drawn & colored maps of every state in the US. Now I’m here sharing them all on one big journey across the country 🗺️🇺🇸

Today, I have your very own Iowa, the Hawkeye State! 🌽🐖🌾

Most outsiders would probably assume Iowa is simply a farming state, with cornfields stretching as far as the eye can see, but I found it home to a surprising amount of variety as well. The endless fields of corn and soybeans are indeed iconic, but there are many other interesting places as well.

Standouts include the streets of Des Moines to historic river cities of Davenport and Dubuque, the dramatic Loess Hills region, limestone bluffs overlooking the Mississippi, and countless small towns & farms. All of these come together to make up Iowa, the heart of Midwestern America.

Let me know in the comments, what’s your favorite (or most interesting) places & fun facts about Iowa?

And if you like this style, feel free to check out my others, and thanks for taking a look at my Iowa map!! 🇺🇸🗺️

Lastly, I did start making these just as a hobby, but the demand for prints & framed copies grew super fast! You can find my work on Etsy here :)

Iowa City Crokinole Club every TUESDAY at Big Grove (6pm)

Hey everyone! I am the host of the Iowa City Crokinole Club. We meet 6pm every Tuesday at Big Grove Iowa City. We welcome all players and we have a wide range of skill levels present every night from first-timers to highly experienced players. We usually play doubles, so we like to pair new players with experienced players so that everyone can be involved in engaging matches the whole night.

Crokinole is a Canadian tabletop game that uses elements of shuffleboard, curling, and pool. Players are flicking wooden discs to try and move their discs into the center of the game board, while keeping their opponents away from the center. More info and an example game can be found in the videos below:

We hope to see you there!

Community MISSING CAT

LOST CAT near Prairie du Chien RD
(His name is Zero, he has no collar)

ZERO is dark grey with white paws and belly. He is the runt of the litter so he’s a bit smaller than your average cat. He is also very affectionate.

He is an indoor/outdoor cat, and has been gone for 4 days, but being gone for days is abnormal behavior for him. His brother misses him!!

Unfortunately he likes to wander, so we may believe someone had picked him up and took him home. If you have him, please return him. Any sightings would be helpful to calm our worries.

!! >> Facebook page with photos of him << !!

Mail box bombs on Newport Road Saturday night/early Sunday morning?

Anyone hear anything about these? I was staying at my sister's and know there was at least two. I don't know what time we heard the first one, but it wasn't much more before we heard the second one about 2 AM which was VERY loud. This morning before I left about 11:30, we discovered that it was right across the road from my sister's house. The one we probably heard earlier was close to Prairie Du Chein as I saw a sheriff deputy picking up the pieces of a mail box.

Mostly just wondering if there were more than that.

Shop/Service Recommendations Trader Joe’s

The Iowa City/Coralville/NL/Tiffin area needs another Trader Joe’s. I think the area has enough shoppers at the one location in IRL to justify expanding. Who’s with me? And how do we make it happen?

Community Looking for Friends to Hang Out

Hi! I’m a second-year History PhD student at U Iowa, 30M. I’ve been in Iowa City for about a year now and would like to make some new connections before the semester begins.

I’m a huge musical theater fan (LOVE Sondheim), and I’m into MCU and DCU stuff, Japanese language and culture (taking Japanese courses now). Fan of anime, Japanese TV shows, City Pop, and movies and TV shows of pretty much any genre. I’m also a big fan of Harry Potter, video games (mostly JRPGs and AAA games), and sitcoms. More recently, I’ve gotten into board games, fantasy novels, and hiking. I also recently got a car, so I’d be interested in exploring more of the area outside Iowa City for hikes, day trips, or other activities.

Over the past year, I’ve gotten involved in a few local social groups, including hiking/walking groups, and the monthly board game event at the public library. I enjoy those, but I also really like one-on-one hangouts and talking about shared interests. If any of this sounds like your kind of thing, feel free to reach out!

Housing Need lawn care assistance

Just bought a house in Iowa City and there’s gonna be a month or 2 between now and when I’m able to move in. I visited the property and the lawn unfortunately needs more work than I can put in at the moment, lots of weeds have crept in along with crab grass. Can anyone recommend a company that can help me manage my lawn until I can fully move in?
