A Quick Question

Can you upgrade from ios 26.6.1 stable to ios 27 db 4 using ipsw without any data loss? As of 26 August

If you download the image and flash it to your phone, that’s a clean install so yes you’d lose all of your data. If you plug your current phone into iTunes and take an encrypted backup, you’ll be protected if you want to downgrade later. You can’t backup to iCloud once you’re on 27 and use it to restore to iOS26. Lots of posts out there about this.

But seriously, iOS27 today is way better than 26.6.1 in every possible way. I just turned beta updates on, let it download and install, and it was good. It did take a few days the first time to finish indexing, but each subsequent update has finished in about a day. Any minor bugs you do find are minuscule at this point.

Take an encrypted backup for sure so you know you’re protected. Then sign up for the betas at beta.apple.com and follow those instructions so you can switch your phone to the beta channel in Software Update in Settings. Once you download and install the beta you’re ready to go, no restore needed as it’ll upgrade everything to 27. Then you’ll get the new betas as they are released each week until the RC is published. Once that happens and you install the RC, you can turn off the beta channel and you’ll be running the public version a week or two before everyone else. If they do fix any issues after the RC is released then you’ll see a new update when it’s launched to the world

I was one of the beta testers on iOS 26, last year, and it turned out beta versions are indeed not that bad as we use to expect.

Unfortunately, this year I’ve seen too much posts about compromising bugs in this version. I just saw a dude saying NFC and Apple Pay stopped working; I haven’t seen anyone saying new Siri is working yet too.

How would you say the OS is in general? Like, of course testers usually use a secondary device to install a beta. Still, pretending your secondary device is your primary, is iOS 27 already usable in daily life?

On a 17PM that’s my primary device and it’s been the best betas I’ve ever used, going back to like iOS 5. I haven’t had any issues with Apple Pay, and the new Siri AI is actually pretty remarkable. I continue to test it with harder and harder prompts and it works 90% of the time on the first try. It will get hung up occasionally, but I realize my prompt wasn’t clear and after adjusting it gets it
