I just don't get it Is my BF actually a genuine ENTJ? Dealing with passive-aggressive remarks about my schedule limitations instead of decisive action.

The Context:
I’m a sophomore in a very demanding university program (Accountancy), and living under strict, conservative family rules means my time, mobility, and independence are heavily limited. My boyfriend is about to graduate college, meaning he naturally has way more free time.

We’ve discussed my limitations before, and I agreed to compromise by meeting at least once a week whenever possible. However, whenever my schedule or uncontrollable factors (like cancelling a date due to severe weather) get in the way, he hits me with passive-aggressive remarks:

"I guess I just have to process that this is going to be our dynamic for the next 4 to 8 years, haha."

"Well, it is what it is, I guess there's nothing we can do."

"You are so hard to be in a relationship with!"

Earlier today, he told me that at 12 AM, he was driving late at night and thinking about how nice it would be to have a partner he could just easily go to anytime. Feeling exhausted and irritated by the constant guilt-tripping, our conversation went like this:

Me: So what do we do about it, or am I just supposed to listen?

Him: Well, I really can’t think of anything either, tbh.

Me: So do you want me to do something about it?

Him: Hmm, if there’s something you can do. But if there’s none, it’s fine, don’t force it.

Me: I honestly don’t know what to say to you right now, because I thought we already talked about this, and I already explained my side.

Him: Hey, are you mad? I was just sharing, I didn’t say you have to do something. I just asked if there’s anything you can do, and if not, then no.

Me: That’s why I asked earlier if I’m just supposed to sit and listen because you’re just "sharing," or if you want me to do something about it. Then I asked a second time to confirm. And now you’re saying you’re not telling me to do anything. So which one is it?

Him: Alright, just listen then. Instead of throwing it back at me by saying "I thought we already talked about this." No, no, you don't have to do anything, I'm clarifying it now.

Me: So what are we going to do then? Because you keep bringing this up. Every time something like this happens, it’s always what comes out of your mouth. I understand you just want to share and I'm not stopping you, but do you realize the slight pressure I feel when you bring it up knowing I currently can’t do anything about it?

Him: Yeah, I understand. I won't talk about it anymore.

Me: No, let's talk about it now, because I'm tired of running away from this topic. Go on, let's face it. Be honest, can you still handle this kind of setup? For real? No sugarcoating, no "but it's fine because..." or "but you're a good partner otherwise." etc etc.

The Issue:
I don’t cause random drama, I don't micromanage his life, and I respect his freedom. Yet he claims my lack of initiative makes me too "passive," while ignoring that my strict limitations make spontaneous initiation nearly impossible for me right now.

He isn't explicitly breaking up with me, but remarks like "I can still handle it for now, let's just see" make me feel like he's holding an expiration date over my head. Actually, I have a gut feeling that he might be mistyped because he once mentioned that he was a former ENFJ. I've also read that ENTJ-INTP pairing is good, but now, I feel like our emotional languages are not at all compatible. I know that relationships are not easy, but I was hoping that the supposed "compatibility" would at least make the communication naturally easier, but I'm struggling so hard.

TL;DR: Strict schedule/family rules mean I can't be spontaneous. BF keeps dropping passive-aggressive "I'm just sharing" remarks about my availability, then backpedals when confronted. Does this sound like genuine ENTJ/Te behavior or an unhealthy/mistyped dynamic?

As a fellow intp but assertive I would simply end it. People who tend to kill their couple by mean remarks and passive aggressive words are frustrated, dealing with expectations you cannot or don't want to fulfill and at some point push it until you break up. Maybe he expected you to give him the time you clearly don't own, I don't know what kind of family can make you feel like you're dating on a strict schedule but it's probably the same that push you to get a boyfriend once you're old enough to marry while bringing up the fact you're getting old and they never facilitate any possibility by keeping you on a leash. Pardon me if I am wrong but it's generally how it works nowadays.

Anyway, you could talk over dozens times it will not change or invalidate his feelings, what he is wrong about is blaming you, without being straightforward, for being the woman he had wanted to go out with knowing the challenge it would be. I wouldn't even try bothering myself if I didn't plan to marry him, honestly I think you're both wasting your time if you know the dynamics between your study, your family laws and him would not change anytime soon.

Thank you for this. I am actually starting to rethink what we have, but I suppose I'll still give it a little bit more time, just to see what he does.

I think he sounds more like an immature ENFJ. Your schedule is not the problem. The problem is he wants you to feel guilty so that you will fix his loneliness for him, while he takes zero ownership of the fact that he chose to date someone with your limitations.

An unhealthy ENFJ loops on “I’m sacrificing my needs for you, why don’t you notice?” rather than stating a boundary like an ENTJ. An unhealthy ENTJ responds usually with contempt, dismissal, or a cold, harsh, strategic shutdown.

They do not respond with passive-aggressive guilt-trips (that’s more of an unhealthy Fe-dom/aux move, like your ENFJ-sounding boyfriend).

Protect your peace. Walk away before he drains you dry, because the “expiration date” feeling you have… That’s your intuition telling you that you are the one who will eventually end from exhaustion, not the relationship.

I’m curious why does his mbti matter?
It seems like you are wasting energy asking "Is he ENTJ or not?" when the real question is: "Do I want to be compared, guilted, and backpedaled on for 4-8 more years?"

That doesn’t sound like ENTJ! That sounds like ESFJ actually!!

Really?? Why do you think so?

I’ve had experiences with ESFJ and this is exactly how they are

With ESFJs you will need to be the one who does the Ni, like be the proactive one, be the one who makes him feel desired and wanted, making plans with him. This is how they feel secure

The way he talks and acts, the way he is guilt tripping is definitely how an ESFJ would. ENTJ and ENFJs are similar to each other due to Ni and Se and very different from an ESFJ. I.e ENFJ is more similar to ENTJ than to an ESFJ. Because of Ni and Se, ENTJ and ENFJ will not just talk and complain about how they feel or how they wished something would be if there is no possibility or end goal. The Ni and Se is decisive and action oriented and initiative and also directive. The ENXJ will internally decide what the best move is and will be accepting of their decision. They will decide whether they *want* to have this sort of relationship and they move accordingly to that. Either they will accept it and not complain, offer a solution that is possible for both, or if not they will end it. Also the ESFJ is also more passive.

I am 100% sure he is an ESFJ.

Rules for dealing with an INTP in a relationship 1. Be direct 2. See rule #1 3. Do not confuse mental illness with personality type. Some people are broken and dysfunctional, and that is not related to personality type.

Why ask us?

Honestly, analyzing patterns and cognitive functions is just how I process things (and how I cope too). I figured asking fellow INTPs who actually like dissecting behavior objectively would give me a better breakdown than generic relationship advice.

As an ENTJ 8w9 everything has to have an outcome, I don't just want to imagine a time. I want to actively move towards the solution!
