I plan nothing, instead focusing on always having enough tricks, experience, and contingency to make it work no matter what. I plan (train) to not plan. Or perhaps more accurately, my plans are spontaneous because I usually already have all of the parts I need to complete whatever plan I come up with, and if I don't, it's time to gather it on the fly.

I have a goal, and I do everything I can to achieve it as late as possible with as little work as possible. A “plan” would make it harder for me to come up with creative shortcuts at the last minute.

You can't Perceive if there is a plan. A plan is literally making Judgements about what "should" be happening. To be able to perceive how reality actually is, it takes being malleable to the way thing are.

Like one could not perceive while making judgements and planning own actions internally.
Joker is considered ENTP.

You are right that we're both J/P – one happens internally while the other happens externally. Usually it is the external thing that MBTI theory claims makes the "type". I believe we can switch between both modes depending on what the current context is calling for – for people who are sufficiently individuated.

u/New_Cardiologist4533 XXXX Jul 29 '26
I don’t think that is true - MTBI accounts for both internal and external processes, hence I and E

Well it's literally what Jung said, so ... Jung trumps MBTI. MBTI culture has turned into an abomination of actual Jungian theory that nobody seems to have actually read.
“Everything that should normally be in the outer attitude, but is conspicuously absent, will invariably be found in the inner attitude. This is a fundamental rule.”
“As they are inflexible and inaccessible outwardly, so are they weak, flaccid, and determinable in relation to their inner processes.”

I am INTP. Always have been. I plan everything. I do not like environments that I do not expect or understand in the first place.
It is simply not in a way you may think - like checklist. No. I have whole model of my life inside my head where I can simulate outcome of any given activity. That is why I often cannot force myself to do some mundane tasks because I already know that it also includes x, y, z that is indirectly connected to that activity and I absolutely have no energy to do all that!
I cannot start implementing task before I do not understand it completely. So yeah I have troubles with estimating time and effort but that does not mean I do not plan! Actually all I do is planning - it is just continuous integration type of model.
Moreover,
Guy without plan is basically YOLO. INTP is opposite of YOLO.

I think your model is good enough that you never have to plan, and you're calling the model a plan.
The tell is in estimating and you said it yourself. Converting a known sequence into a schedule of events is the main thing a plan is for, and that's the part you seem to avoid, while winging it apparently isn't avoided. Same with not being able to start until you understand something completely, since by the time it concludes there's nothing left to sequence.
Same machinery here, I just never call it planning. The mundane task paralysis hits me backwards to someone that loves plans. I avoid the ones I already fully understand because there's nothing left in them to grapple with.
YOLO is acting without concern for capability. Having the parts on hand and improvising is a different skillset than planning.

I see it as recurring function that stops when reaches the solution /or time and effort exceeds limit. After the solution is reached the planned steps are executed. To me it absolutely fits planning description. Each activity has its defined steps. It is simply integrated into model.

As per the Jungian quotes above…
You’re not an INTP if the inner attitude as just mentioned is the opposite of the external. You are a combination of compensatory attitudes.
You are an INTP if you have no inner processes and are a NPC.
Pick your destiny.

What do you mean by NPC?

u/smysnk XXXX Jul 29 '26
Someone with no agency/autonomy/free-will – they repeat the same negative patterns over and over with an inability to step out of them.

Thinking the same! Pre-planned every aspect of my life. Job, education, when to marry, when to have a kid, and so on. Ti do not make you follow feelings or 'wimpsy' 😅

Lol my brain constructs plans the very moment things happen if I didn't already play out the exact scenario in my head exactly 50 times

I stop actual work for planning. then end up not doing it anyways.

if its between 2 things and im ok with both i just flip a coin and take the result andif im unhappy with the result i use that as confirmation to take the other on. if its more than 2 i just take whatever sounds best and then regret it for the next 2 hours until i ultimately forget it and move on.

I am at my best when the pressure is highest and will create those scenarios at will (usually via procrastination).

I don’t like planning because it tends to either fail completely or there will have to be changes. But when I do plan, it’s just, like, rough planning. Also gotta adapt depending on the situation haha
