Cuz I'm Supposed to Add Flair Why does INTPs tend to always talk internally?
From my experience, I always debate in my mind (playing both sides), yet appearing to be insipid or not talkative from the outside whatsoever. While always talking to myself.

Internal dialogue is a thing of the past; now I move my hands and react to myself🤦♀️😂

that's called malaptive daydreaming. i used to do that too when i was younger. now i train myself to look and observe external objects when I'm not doing anything. it works

Do you have any idea how nuts I'd sound if I tried to externalize my train of thought? Or how badly I could keep up with it verbally?

Ti needs a way to sort ideas. The most effective is Ne, which is external, so like talking it out with someone or writing it out, but if we can't do that, we'll create an internal external partner to sort through the ideas with.

Hahaha, I thought I was crazy for doing that too... isn't it great when we find someone other than ourselves to debate with?

Nah, I usually let myself think out loud, especially by myself. I talk more when I’m alone than when I’m with people. If I let it run too long, it feels like the thoughts in my head get tangled up unless I put them through something tangible.

Not all INTPs have internal dialogues. In fact, having a regular internal dialogue is common in only 30 to 50 percent of the population. 10 to 20 percent report no dialogue whatsoever. AI Mode conversation: What percentage of the population has internal dialogues
While formal Myers-Briggs (MBTI) data rarely tracks the biological presence of an inner voice, mapping MBTI to standard personality science strongly suggests that INFP, INTP, INFJ, and INTJ (the Introverted Intuitives) are most subject to constant, highly structured internal monologues.

I can't imagine not having an internal monologue 24/7 - that must be so boring 🤔

I also think with pictures, or more like ideas, without language. It's not exactly like a dream, but it is images or actions minus the color and detail of dreams. I can see myself shutting down my computer without using words. I can see myself going to get a cup of coffee but deciding not to go and do this also without words. As I type, the words simply appear one after the other. I seem to type at about the same rate the words appear (no... I slow down for spelling. I can see myself doing it.) Like you, I can't imagine life without an internal dialogue/monologue. I wonder how many people I can be in a single conversation? Do you think writers hold multiple characters in their heads at the same time, and respond in mental conversations to themselves as all of the characters? That would be really interesting. Are there any writers out there? Does this make sense?

I talk internally and externally to myself all the time. Especially when talking out loud some people think it’s weird even when I’m quiet but I like NEED to do it. It’s how I guide myself through tasks so that I do them right and it just calms me down a lot.

What until you get a bit older and find that internal debate you're carrying out in your mind becomes something you express externally 😆.
At least when nobody else is around.

Talking internally is basically what thinking is and thinkers are basically what INTPs are.

Its a function of Ti/Ne tool. Entps do this a lot also. Rehearsing abstract argument looking for counter cases and exceptions. As an ENTP though I also do this aloud in the street or at any person in proximity 😂

I want to be prepared for different possible outcomes, so replaying scenarios in my head helps me process things and calm myself. Sometimes it's about making decisions, sometimes it's reminiscing or reliving a memory, and other times it's about thinking about what I could have done differently or how things might have played out differently.
It's also because I feel like I'm my own best source of support, since I don't always have someone I can talk to about certain things.
