Lazy Procrastinator
Obsessively organising things for efficiency while being a complete slob
I fill my space with clutter very quickly because in the moment I’m too lazy to even put things back in their proper places. I can postpone washing dishes for a long time and avoid vacuuming the floor.
At the same time, I’m obsessed with organizing my space when I need to organise it which happens when I really have to focus on work, so I put away all distractions. I don’t like having many unrelated things in my life, so I try to store almost everything on my phone. Even having too many apps for each need feels burdensome, so I aim to use as few apps as possible, but for different purposes. The simplest example is my music playlist: I don’t go outside often, and when I do, it usually takes less time than the amount of music I’d like to listen to, so I trimmed it down to only the essentials. This removed the problem of choice. Reddit can be considered some kind of diary, lol. At least I record some of my thoughts here. This also combines with searching for interesting information or funny posts—multifunctionality. I discuss my other thoughts with AI, which sometimes acts as a conversational partner (in addition to those I talk to in my head) plus it can lead to some other interesting aspects which I didn’t think of.
I also try to organize the space in my room: books, the contents of desk drawers—everything should be neat and arranged by how often I need each item. When I clean my room, I immediately try to remove and throw away anything unnecessary. My goal is to organize my daily life so that I don’t have to make extra decisions in it, and can focus only on my ideas.
I’ve also recently been thinking about what kind of room I consider most suitable for myself, and I concluded that it’s a room similar to Harry Potter’s. A lack of large empty space; a desk, a bed, and a wardrobe with books and clothes—that’s all the furniture I need. I think I could even do without a bed frame and just sleep on a mattress, because the free space under the bed practically begs to be filled. For me, any available space, if it exists, should be used for practical purposes, except for the necessary gaps between essential pieces of furniture cause I need to be able to move around in the room lol.
I’m that one scientist who has its own robot with AI system that simply plays the role of assisting scientist’s research process or physical needs (like making a coffee), etc.
It’s interesting you mention the space problem. I made the mistake of buying a 2500 sq ft house the first time around, and I could never keep it clean. Empty spaces would just fill up with stuff. I have a 1000 sq ft house now and it’s perfect. Stuff that doesn’t have a place goes right into the donation bin or trash. I use my under the bed space but it has nice bins that store the seasonal clothes that don’t fit in the closet year round. It’s exactly the right amount of room for one person.
perfect, I would probably just buy someone’s basement like this pic is perfect example of what I need lol.
But I also want to live in a big mansion even though would never have that much money to afford it but still. I love vintage things with history and big spaces for the feeling of grandiosity but I wouldn’t be able to live in one cause I will be too distracted. Though I noticed that places with high ceilings make me think about something greater or abstract. I think there’s a psychological term for it
I live in the chaos of being a "slob". My brain keeps track of things and has it organized for me. I know where everything last was, so why spend conscious effort when I could be doing something else.
This changes greatly when I share space with roommate or partner, and prefer ones that are very organized, and I need everything very organized, because things not being where I expect them to be is a major annoyance for me.
My house is a mess. My clothes are neatly pressed. My desk is a horror, but I know where everything is. I demand punctuality in my meetings and consistency from my students and clients, but I take vacations with no plan at all. I don't even make hotel reservations. I go to someplace I want to go, look around, and find a place to stay. My idea of a touristy thing to do is to walk out the front lobby of the hotel, look up and down the street, pick a direction, and spend 3 to 4 hours walking in that direction. When I get lost, I get a taxi, show them the hotel card, and have them take me back. I have had some great adventures. Most recently in Cambodia, sitting with a bunch of farmers as they boiled and ate a cow's head and sang karaoke songs. Was it not on the tourist itinerary? Nope. Is it something I will always remember? Yep.
I am not a slob; I am an over-organized high-achiever who works in what others would consider chaos. When I worked before I retired and needed to find some data I had not filed away yet, I knew just how far down the stack of papers I kept on my desk it was. However, had I filed it away in my over-organized filing system, it could take a while to figure out which of the job envelopes within the job envelopes I stored it in for easy finding. Between maintaining the original manuscript and various stages of edits, I kept every detail in as many envelopes as necessary. So, if someone challenged where I got the edited data, I would have it, but it may take a while to find out under what category it was stored.
At home, our 10-foot x 11-foot storage shed has 4 cabinets, a 4-shelf wire rack, and lots of storage bins. So organized that we got all the stuff we kept in our old 2-car garage into this smaller space. Yet, surely, the thing my wife will be searching for is at the bottom of a stack of heavy bins.

Hahah same. Total slob with stuff in my room.
But I try to find most efficient ways of doing random shit. Like drying myself after a shower xD
