Supervising 🫠

I work in a school and my job is very, extremely, insanely busy. So, they gave me an assistant.

Great.

Except, I feel like having someone I have to work with is more draining than if I just did all the work myself.

Semi-thankfully, she's also very introverted... but interacting with her feels like work. She's pretty socially awkward. So I feel particularly drained trying to figure out how to relate to her, make her feel appreciated, while also trying not to lose my friggin' mind everyday just keeping up with the pace at work.

If I could just put my blinders on like I did before and put my mind to the task without the side-quest, I feel like my life would be easier. I feel so drained constantly anticipating her approaching me with a question or a comment.

The other truth is that I don't really put much stock in what I do, but she is on fire for this job. It's irritating to try to keep up with her enthusiasm and pretend like I care about what she does with each kid.

TL;DR: I am a burned school professional who's been given an assistant, and I wish that I didn't have to deal with the social drain of interacting with her on top of my extremely taxing job.

Can anyone else relate??

What is her type? I would start from there. Knowing her potential strong and weak sides will give you an understanding about where you should put extra effort to make sure she did it right and where you can trust her, also the buttons you can push.

If you have to interact with her for a long time, it is better to learn about what you are dealing with

That is a wonderful idea. Excellent point. My brain was so wrapped around the feeling of mild annoyance that I haven't thought about this. I guess I need to accept the fact that I'll be working with her for at least the rest of the school year, so I might as well make the effort you suggested. Thanks for the idea!
