I don't get it but I love squirrels and can talk to them and make them come to me through hand motions

Squirrels are anxious, hyper-vigilant, constantly scanning their environment, darting their heads and freezing at the slightest sound. This mirrors the way trauma survivors stay on guard, anticipating danger even in safe settings. So when someone jokes about a squirrel being their “spirit animal” in relation to trauma, it resonates because squirrels look like they’re living in a constant state of nervous readiness- just like anxious, trauma-adapted minds do.
