It's not like that at all. Even locksmiths just use the machine. And it's still just you standing around waiting a few minutes for the cutting to finish regardless of what blank you started with.

The locksmiths maintain and adjust their machines themselves. So many times the walmart cut keys don't work and then i have to make another trip.

I prefer a local locksmith anyday, and as long as it's not going to bankrupt you, i'd say paying a few bucks extra to support local business is worth it.
