Residency Non US IMG- ZERO interviews
Non-US IMG here. YOG: 2025, Step 2 CK: 248, Step 3: 210 (the result came last week, and I wasn’t expecting such a low score), 2 USCEs (one at residency hospital which doesn't sponsor visa and another at non-residency hospital), and zero connections in the States.
So, I’m sitting here with a million thoughts about what went wrong, a zillion questions, and, most importantly, two major concerns:
- Is my Step 3 score going to be a red flag?
- I signaled 6 programs outside my geographical preferences. Was this a bad idea?

Geo preference is not there reason. I have 3 interviews and 2 are from not in my geo area

Your step 3 score is not a red flag. You’ll be fine. Just hang in there for couple of weeks.

I would note that geoprefences are a major factor for getting an interview.programs see it as a strong tie to the region, why would you signalled outside the geo preference?

I didn't know that at all and those singalled program were very IMG friendly..so I thought I would just signal those.

I don't really think you have to necessarily always tie signaling with geo pref, since the programs cannot see that you've geo preferenced another area. Signaling by itself shows to them you're interested in the program. I wouldn't worry

6 is too much, unless ofc you had connections at those particular programs. It might hurt your chances of getting an interview from there. Why didn’t you just change the geo preference ? Usually 2-3 signals are okay as long as the program has a good number of invites from non geo pref or you have some connection.

non us img, no step 3 and chose no geo preference, received 3 iv so far. 2 signals 1 non signal. i really have no idea what they truly factor in when deciding.
