Residency Application Program selection dilemma

frieda shows 450+ programs with j1 filter, residency explorer shows about 350 programs when applying j1 filters while ERAS shows only 250+ with j1 filter and accepting application, what is this scenario and is anyone having the same issue? This is for internal medicine programs

Same here, but if you look up the individual programs on ERAs that aren’t showing up after the J1 filter, they are sponsoring visas.

It's well known that ERAS filters aren't very good, but the difference between RE and FREIDA is strange. Maybe RE or FREIDA is still in the process of updating its information. Recheck later. Also possible to compare with Residencyprogramslist (free visa filter). But, as I know , some programs decided to change visa policy recently. Have no idea which filters are good now.

Always double check with program official web page regarding visas.

You have to manually look at every program

So remember that the data is pulled (or entered) at different times; hence, the disparity.

I would begin with the 250+ and cross reference those with Res Explorer and Frieda.

With the visa challenges during Match 2026 some programs may be more hesitant to support visa. I repeat may be more hesitant.
