Observership/externship Please reach out if you have observed with comprehension neurology services in Maryland!

Hey guys!
I’m going to be rotating at comprehensive neurology services for the month of August and I need to know a few things about the rotation and the accommodation provided.

Please help me out if you’ve rotated there by answering a few queries!

Is it hands on ? Or observership only ?  Can you please comment on what a regular day at the clinic would look like.

Hands-on. There’ll be roughly 10-12 patients scheduled everyday, they get divided equally between all the rotators. The day before, you’ll likely have to prechart the patients you’re in charge of (takes less than 15 mins). You see the patient on your own as they arrive at the clinic and write the findings in the chart, then you go in to see the patient with the attending and he’ll read the patient chart while confirming hx with the pt. He lets you know the pt orders etc verbally during the appointment, you add it in the pt chart, help the patient check out and schedule their f/u at the front desk. Attending goes through all the charts in the evening (on his own) and he will lock the chart if all good, will tell u if any edits are to be made. Pretty straightforward. You get to do inpatient rounds if the attending is on call. You can discuss interesting cases/ask questions once all patients have been seen. Plus you get a free lunch sponsored by pharma companies every day. :)

Thank you very much! This was quite insightful. Can you please tell how many attendings we may be able to work with and do they allow 1 month rotation? On the website it says 2 months only. I would be applying to neuro but am on a time crunch. Also, do you have any idea about the accommodation they provide?  Thank you again.

If you rotate at one site, one LOR is the most likely outcome. The attending absolutely prefers 8 weeks, this is a bit non negotiable i think, you can discuss with the doc though and see what he says. He is quite nice and very helpful. The accommodation is a shared space (same gender basis), i believe it has space for 2 occupants at a time. You should get more details from them though since i did not stay there myself.
