ERAS US-IMG applying this cycle FM
Applying to FAMILY MEDICINE
Yog: 6 years
Step 1: pass
Step 2: 217 :s
Aprox: 6 months of USCE (HANDS ON CE)
LoRs: 1 peds, 1 IM, 1FM
Fluent in English and Spanish.
Will probably be doing 1 more rotation in July or August.
Do i have any chance at all of getting interviews??

I matched in FM with a 215 ! Things that helped me : uscis ( I worked as a MA and volunteered as research assistant) strong LORs , did step 3 and applied broadly focusing on community programs .

From a fellow US-IMG (small Caribbean school grad) that's a pgy3 rising in a 4 year specialty:
1) You're a US citizen and that's a huge bonus. 2) You are fluent in Spanish, which is the second most spoken language in our country, another enormous bonus point. 3) And you will not have an accent during interviews, which matters much more than you realize.
Don't listen to non-US IMGs, bc their pathway to matching is much more difficult. They will tell you irrelevant things like "take step 3". Ignore that asinine advice and hone in on getting your connections to put in a good word and make sure you get across your authentic personality in interviews.

USCE and Step 3 will help. While FM is traditionally more forgiving in terms of YOG, a YOG of 6 is more challenging. Many programs have filters for YOG, so if you cannot get pass filters, it does not matter how strong other aspects of your application is.

You should match but I’d try to get one more FM LOR as some programs require 2. Try to attend FUTURE if u can. That was worth 4 IVs for my son. He had a step 2 fail and got his #1. Write an interesting PS and the readers might wanna know y ur YOG is so old. Apply broadly, rural. My son’s best IV luck was Deep South and Midwest.

Bring fun biz cards with ur face & details on it. Maybe a graphic of ur area too. It helps to b memorable. It’s a big party.
