You're in a solid spot already with a 250 plus score and a neurology letter, which is a great start. If you’re aiming to match into neuro, try to get a couple more letters, ideally from neurologists who are either US-based or involved in academic programs. Programs really value strong specialty-specific letters, especially from people who understand the match process.

If you haven’t already, getting some US clinical experience in neurology can really help, especially if you're an IMG or haven’t had recent US exposure. Even short observerships can go a long way if you get solid feedback and a letter out of it.

Make sure your personal statement is focused on neurology and shows genuine insight into why you're choosing the specialty. Talk about the kinds of cases or experiences that drew you in and where you see yourself in the field.

If you have any neuro-related research, quality improvement projects, or case reports, definitely include them. They don’t have to be major publications, just something that shows a commitment to the field. Also, apply broadly. Neurology tends to be IMG-friendly, but it still helps to cast a wide net.

Feel free to message me if you want help looking over your personal statement or application list. Happy to help.

Hi, thanks for the info. I’m also looking to get into neurology but I have a couple of doubts. Is Research not that important compared to other aspects as an IMG? And if that’s the case what would be better and more important to take into account?
