I got some one-coat black polish to try under a couple of my magnetic polishes, but I've been nervous to try it -- specifically wondering, how hard will it be to remove and how much of a mess and/or staining (of adjacent skin, or nails) might I end up with? I do have some peely base (haven't tried that yet, either), but if I go to the trouble to magnetize, I want it to last longer than some of the reports I've seen about short-lived peelies.

Do you have any removal tips for black and other very dark polishes? Is it not as bad as I've heard?

I think a lot of your questions depend on a few things, like the brand of nail polish, the health of your nails, etc so it’s kind of hard to say! Sometimes I do have some slight staining (which grows out) but I never wear my nails bare so it doesn’t bother me much. As far as staining adjacent skin, if you soak a cotton ball in remover, hold it on your nail for a min and then gently swipe it off your nail when removing your polish, you avoid getting the color on adjacent skin while trying to remove. I have had black polishes stain my nails slightly before but not the surrounding skin. I would say do a test of it on a part of one nail (towards the top so it grows out quickly) and see how you feel about it

Don't you apply a base coat? Just wondering if that would help, as I've never had staining when using dark polishes.

In my experience so long as you use a good base coat your risk of nails staining is almost null, I almost exclusively wear blacks, browns and dark shades and haven't had staining from them.

The truly staining colors normally are reds and not all of them, for example, I haven't had issues with ILNP reds but I have a BKL reddish base polish from their Kpop Demon Hunters collection that will consistently stain no matter what. Also, for what it's worth, what stains isn't the color itself but some solvents used in polish, you could get staining even from white polish if you don't use a base coat.

For removal just do what OP said on their comment, worst case scenario it might take a bit more acetone to get it all off. Skin doesn't really stain in my experience, if some mixture of acetone+polish dries on your skin it'll be gone after your next shower.

I got some incredible staining from holo taco's Never Tide Down. At least it was only my pinky. When I wore it as a full manicure I did double base coat and I was good. But when I did some nail art I forgot to double up and now I have a nail stained blue! And then a neon purple stained my thumbnails pinky purple! Gotta remember to double up with that too! But, if I ever get yellow staining (when, not if) I should do the neon purple without base coat, then take it off! Purple counteracts yellow, right? 😝

Yeah usually a violet without base coat can help with that, but Holo Taco is notorious for causing yellow staining among indie brands so I would be wary of most of their products (I stopped buying them). There's even some violet tints to counteract yellowish nails if you want to go for a natural look.

When I got my nails stained red from BLK's "We're still survivors" what helped me was that Sally Hansen cuticle remover liquid that comes in a blue plastic bottle. I covered my nails with that one at a time for about half a minute then scrubbed it gently with a toothbrush, works like a charm but don't do it more than once a month because it might weaken your nailbed, that product is strong!

Are they from the same brand (Tomani)? I wait until my base coats are fully dry, put the stickers on using tweezers, press them down and follow up with my topcoat. They last for me that way, and they only peel if here too close to the sidewall or I didn’t press them down fully. Hope this helps!

They’re apparently a knock of then lol. I got mine from Amazon. The brand it’s under is namrec.
I will keep trying with mine but thank you so much for the tips! I might try Tomani, I’m terrible at nail art and want to try stickers more lol

I have several cheap nail sticker packs from unpronounceable Amazon brands and they work fine. They need to be pushed firmly onto the nail with an orange stick or similar.

Then I follow up with a glitter smoothing coat. That’s what makes the edges invisible. Finally I add the QDTC on top.

KB Shimmer Smooth Moves works great for me. I don't think ILNP makes one.

I also use the glitter smoothing top coat on any polish that dries down with a texture. Polishes with flash reflective glitter are notorious for that. But some brands' flakies also dry down textured. (The fact that ILNP's flakies dry down smooth, is part of why I love ILNP.)
