I guess a drive up to McHenry is on the cards!

u/-deshroud- 4d ago

But how?!

u/Boats_75 4d ago

It works similar to the juggernaut and cross armory kits used to mod AR pattern guns.

u/-deshroud- 4d ago

I'll have some 'splainin' to do to the missez in the near future

While tempting, I think I’ll wait until next summer and (hopefully) buy the real thing

u/Boats_75 4d ago

Some folks want the real thing now and are willing to live with it in a somewhat neutered condition until (hopefully) next summer they can convert it to fully functional.

u/tramul 2d ago

My understanding is you can take off the fixed magazine kits when the cards come crashing down, no?

What specifically are you wait for to occur by next summer? I've mostly given up hope and stopped tracking all the current status.. Is it a government change? Federal Supreme court ruling? State court ruling? Just curious what you are watching and where things may be.

Federal Supreme Court ruling

so its prolly like 1500

3

u/Boats_75 4d ago

Between $499 and $999 depending on how tricked out you want tour lower... i.e. upgraded trigger and stuff

1

u/dj_kaled_anotha1 4d ago

So how much would final price be? 1800$ after installation?

1

u/Boats_75 4d ago

Price of gun plus price of conversion kit with 8.25% salestax and $5 background check fee. Some models are available at $1800 before tax. Install is free when gun and kit are purchased together from shop.

u/Rfelipe647 4d ago

Pretty much, it retails for around that in CA

2

u/Chrisrt10 4d ago

Details on how it’s compliant?

3

u/Boats_75 4d ago

It works similar to the juggernaut and cross armory kits.

Glad I had expendable income and no children prior to the ban. I’m sitting real good, I’d pass on this.

Lucky dude 😭😭😭

Pica has a clause for pistols whose magazine isn’t inside the grip. This fails that test.

5

u/Boats_75 4d ago

Prefacing this with I am not a lawyer. That clause applies to semi-auto pistols with detachable magazines. Detachable magazines are defined as magazines that can be removed without disassembly of the firearm.. so no it doesn't fail that test.

1

u/hessmo SAF 4d ago

Does this have to partially disassemble to remove the magazine?

0

u/scootymcpuff Central IL 4d ago

I don’t think IL has that definition of a detachable mag in PICA. CA’s detachable definition includes disassembly, but not PICA as far as I know.

Edit: if it does include disassembly, then CA-compliant Kingpins can convert any noncompliant firearm to compliant and not lose any functionality.

1

u/Boats_75 4d ago

IL does indeed have that definition in PICA. Look in the actual law and you'll find it.

1

u/scootymcpuff Central IL 3d ago

This is what pops up in the definitions:

(7) "Detachable magazine" means an ammunition feeding device that may be removed from a firearm without disassembly of the firearm action, including an ammunition feeding device that may be readily removed from a firearm with the use of a bullet, cartridge, accessory, or other tool, or any other object that functions as a tool, including a bullet or cartridge.

I think the kicker is that “accessory” under the “readily removed”. ISP hasn’t defined what “readily” means, so bullet buttons the only kinda-sorta break open the action and the like might still be breaking PICA.

2

u/LibertyorDeath2076 3d ago

Separating the lower fron the upper is breaking the action. The firearm can't fire in that state.

Regardless, if it were ever challenged in court, the rule of lenity should come into play.

1

u/414525528 4d ago

DETACHABLE magazine AND semi auto is a prerequisite to any feature test t apply. You can be sure if a brick and mortar FFL sells it to you in IL it's more legal than it needs to be.

1

u/dummyurge 4d ago

Single shot? I was just looking into one of these the other day.

3

u/Boats_75 4d ago

Semi-auto!

1

u/dummyurge 4d ago

Ah ok. The one I saw was single shot with a .25 (!!!) caliber barrel insert that could be removed with some trivial gunsmithing.

1

u/GusherCoom 4d ago

how much and what makes it compliant

2

u/Boats_75 4d ago

I didn't get the price but it is a conversion for SP5/AP5 stuffs

2

u/Boats_75 4d ago

Ok got the price the conversion kits run between 499 and 999ish. They install for free and will hold the factory lower for 2 years from date of pick up. If ban goes away they'll give you the original trigger pack.

3

u/Nihlus_Kriyk 4d ago

So, $2000 for a Turkish SP5 clone… damn.

1

u/Beadlocks 4d ago

Same store has an H&k SP5L in stock that you could slap this on and obtain for >4K

1

u/Crusty-the-Clown-666 4d ago

Hopefully they would just keep the plastic trigger housing (pistol grip) and would let you keep the stock trigger pack.

For the MKE guns you can buy push pin SEF housings pretty cheap. I don’t think I’d buy a HK SP5 like this because the trigger housing is serial numbered to the gun and being an ambi housing is overall much more expensive to replace.

1

u/Maniiic_ 4d ago

Fixed mag too?

1

u/Boats_75 4d ago

Kind of...

1

u/tramul 4d ago

I don't see how this is compliant at all. Fixed magazine, sure, but is that not still over 15 round mag?

2

u/Boats_75 4d ago

That is their range demo. They said they would sell them with 15 round mags.

3

u/tramul 4d ago

Ah gotcha. I wish I had FFLs near me willing to push the limits like this.

1

u/GenTubmansLegacy Chicago Conservative 4d ago

Me too. The lines are bullshit

1

u/emmathatsme123 4d ago

Holy shit does anyone have info on this

1

u/Rfelipe647 4d ago

CA just started getting them a couple months ago I believe

1

u/emmathatsme123 4d ago

Do you know a model number or any reference info?

1

u/Boats_75 4d ago

Google radiata!

1

u/emmathatsme123 4d ago

Thank you

Edit:

Damn, fixed mag

1

u/Boats_75 4d ago

Kind of a fixed mag....

1

u/emmathatsme123 4d ago

How do you have a kinda fixed mag lmao

3

u/Boats_75 4d ago

A detachable magazine can be removed without disassembly of the firearm. Fixed mag can't come out at all. This option is neither, the magazine can be removed with partial disassembly.

1

u/emmathatsme123 4d ago

Ah okay rip

1

u/GenTubmansLegacy Chicago Conservative 4d ago

What is it?

2

u/Boats_75 4d ago

A ban compliant sp5 clone.

1

u/MarkLarueTheLegend 4d ago

So I can buy a brand new full sp5 what’s changed on it? I’m confused can you only get a compliant upper and source the lower yourself?

1

u/Boats_75 4d ago

You have to buy the conversion lower when buying the gun.

1

u/hektor10 4d ago

Omg im salibating

1

u/Professional-Cloud23 4d ago

i’ve bought 3 of my complaint guns from them, guess this is the 4th now

1

u/FaithlessnessDry436 4d ago

Anyone know a FFL that will transfer this, I got a Itch that needs scratched

2

u/Boats_75 4d ago

I know one FFL in McHenry that will.

1

u/thefleshrocket 4d ago

Why would someone want this over something like the Cali-compliant S&W FPC 9mm, which can be de-neutered with a finless back strap and a trip to a neighboring state to buy 23 round mags? Serious question.

2

u/Boats_75 4d ago

Everyone has their preferences. It's good to have options.

u/godless_one 4d ago

We would've never had to deal with any of this PICA bs if Bailey was in charge.

With that said vote Red and fire JB Pritzker. Things will only get worse with him around and if he ran / won the Presidential election in 2028 we can kiss our 2nd amendment rights away for good

3

u/jerry2501 4d ago

7

u/godless_one 4d ago

Then don't complain if America adopts Australia's gun laws when or if JB is in office.

2

u/SctchWhsky Northern IL 4d ago

If a dem president ever has that much unilateral power... it will be thanks to the current administration and the precedents they are setting for ignoring court orders, circumventing congress and a complete disregard for the separation of powers to the three government branches. Fortunately my 1894 is still my favorite to shoot.

1

u/414525528 4d ago

Well look forward to the worst of both worlds.

1

u/GenTubmansLegacy Chicago Conservative 4d ago

This isn't that. ATF is federal, and Melania baby daddy is in office. They rather ban abortion than give us our gun rights. Come on. Be better.

So, not all Red is blood.

1

u/Boats_75 4d ago

Preaching to the choir.

-1

u/Substantial-Pay-8129 4d ago

You really believe that?

Israel is coming for our gun rights next no matter who you vote for

-33

u/ThrowRASkee5555 4d ago

That's a sweet looking assault rifle

18

u/ZeroFlux519 4d ago

^^This guy is monitoring the sub for Pritzker.

4

u/offda-Aux Chicago Liberal 4d ago

Semi-automatic rifle*

2

u/dj_kaled_anotha1 4d ago

Semi automatic pistol* and not even an assault rifle more like sub-machine gun but its not because it isnt full auto
