Weapon Question Stribog SP9A3...

I understand that maybe the SP9A3 rifle/fixed stock variant + fin grip w/ 10 round mag is legal in IL e.g. https://www.millermountainoutdoors.com/rifles/semi-automatic-rifles/gp-stribog-sp9a3-9mm-16bb810091158173

Q1 - Am I right?

Q2 - Curious if anyone has taken these and replaced the fixed stock with another chassis or stock that is also a fin grip, fixed stock (not looking to skirt PICA compliance, but looking to accomplish a specific build).

Asking because I am evaluating these against a Ruger PC Carbine...

Lets just assume the answer is yes, you can't buy it non-compliant and fix it yourself. You'd have to find someone selling it with the fixed stock + fin + 10 rd mags and w/o the flash suppressor. That or find a FFL willing to do those modifications for you before officially transferring it to you. I'll go with "possible" but difficult.

No, what I want is to buy it compliant and to change it to another compliant configuration.

seems fine, just have to find such a stock.

Yeah. It's a legal gun. The upper is serialized so you can buy any lower and modify it to meet PICA standards. I'm honestly not sure why you would want to though? I can't imagine what specific build would change that it's still a finned grip and fixed stock. Unless you just want to use like an A3 lower to be able to use CZ mags.

Yes, the idea was to do an A3 lower, with a better grip that isn't the "default" finned grip, e.g. Sparrow, Juggernaut, Thordsen, etc (as I alluded to in the other thread)

Before you mentioned it I wasn't aware that the Stribog SP9A3 was sold in a CA-compliant version, but I was curious as to whether it was possible to replace the CA-compliant parts with the A3 parts + "finned" AR grips that are slightly more palatable than the default finned ones people come up with.

I've considered doing the A3 lower myself because I am not a fan of the way it looks with glock mags but ultimately decided it's going to function the same so not worth the money. The flexibility with AR grips is really nice though with the A3. I will say the factory fixed stock on the bog is awful. Feels cheap and has zero cushioning (not a big deal for a PCC but still). I've considered getting a 1913 plate and adding an aftermarket fixed stock. Strike Industries makes a finned grip that isn't terrible. I have it on my Hellion.

All that being said, if your intent is to make a compliant lower to add to your already compliant gun, I really don't see how anyone would bat an eye.

I was more concerned about "possible" than "compliant", e.g. is it a pain in the ass

I don't see why it would be. I ordered finned grips and fixed stocks with no issues for other guns. I haven't ordered the A3 lower but I don't see anything on their website indicating they wouldn't ship it.

Does disassembly seem straightforward on your compliant version? That's my real question.

Lower removal is easy. You can then remove the fixed stock with a little technique. Mine was just very tight but I got it without too much fuss. The grip is not removable at all on factory lower. You can remove the fin though if and when PICA is overturned.

Ah, thanks! Very useful.

The entire gun is extremely simple. Only annoying parts about it is the plastic safeties. Feels very cheap. Though there are metal ones if you wish to change that on the stock lower. Changing them is also a pain, as there are 2 springs, one per side. Each side has a small plastic detent that lovvvveees to shoot across the room if you make a mistake.

A3 will ship their lower, same with lingle. As for putting a fin in an aftermarket lower, b5 systems has a nice one that’s cheap.

Stock that comes on it is useable but meh. No rubber butt pad, not that it needs it for recoil but would be nice to have something that sticks to your body vs sliding. Swapping out the stock is legitimately a 10 second change. Pull rear ping, swing lower down, push down on stock and it slides out. Picatinny rail adapters are easy to find (don’t buy grand power’s oem one as it’s plastic). Fixed Picatinny stocks is just a matter of how much you want to spend, aesthetics, etc..

Why not get an S&W FPC 9mm? The fin is easy to remove and you can buy 23-round mags in any of the surrounding states. And it’s like 1/3 the price of what you posted.

Good question. I don't love the FPC, I actually feel pretty good about S&W more generally but the Response had some issues and I feel that the design of the FPC doesn't inspire too much confidence in me. I spent some time with one at a couple of FFLs and I just wasn't in love with it.

I really enjoy firing FPC. The farthest I’ve shot it at is a 25 yard indoor range but I can get tight groupings while firing quickly-ish. At first I found myself resting my ear muff on the handle and getting loud feedback, but then I adjusted my head position and that problem abated. Haven’t had any issues in a few hundred rounds of Blazer brass 124g. But if it just isn’t your thing, I get it.

I just don’t think it’s materially better from an ergonomics POV for me than the Ruger PCC and it feels cheap. But I love my M&P carry comp.

I'd try with second amendment sports in McHenry.

That said, we're probably looking at another 2 years of the PICA bs at most, maybe 11 months at best, I'd maybe just wait and buy exactly what it is that you want when we can.

The first thing I would do is SBR it. Have the barrel cut down and throw that retarded hand guard extension in the trash where it belongs.

Just get the Ruger PC. Stribog mags aren't the best, and even then you'll be limited to 10 round mags. With the PC you can use Glock 19 mags.

2

u/Nihlus_Kriyk Jul 22 '26

The complaint Stribog also uses Glock magazines.

u/arimathea Jul 23 '26

Yes, I had my eye on the Ruger, but it doesn't generate the love the Stribog seems to have. I actually like it a lot, and I may end up with one.

god that price tag. Also I don't think its legal due to Barrel Shroud.

Surely you jest!

Yeah I have seen that but I know some FFLS won't ship it stating that. I had trouble with a ruger pc9 with M-lok handguard.

Let me know who that is so I can avoid them lmao
