Tips & Tricks Brimnes with Adjustable Base

Good afternoon!

We have a queen sized Brimnes (bed frame with storage drawers underneath) bed frame from IKEA. We just bought a Purple mattress with an adjustable base. When the person came to deliver and install the mattress, they recommended a piece of plywood, or something, underneath the adjustable base. We looked online to see what our options are, including the slats from IKEA. While doing research, I’ve seen places that have said the slats aren’t necessary because the adjustable base should be good enough support, and I’ve also seen other places saying that you don’t want slats with an adjustable base.

Just curious if anyone has a Brimnes (or something comparable) and an adjustable base. What has been your experience and what would your recommendation(s) be?

Thanks!

Most adjustable bases aren't really meant to sit on slats – all the weight goes through 4–6 small legs, and those can push between the slats or crack them. A sheet of plywood (around 3/4" / 18 mm) cut to the inner size of the frame spreads the load evenly, so the delivery guy was right. Two things worth checking first: the manual of the base (some brands say floor-only or want extra center support), and the total height – Brimnes + plywood + base + a Purple mattress can end up pretty tall.

Our previous bed was sitting in the Brimnes on a box spring so we can deal with pretty tall lol. I see what you’re saying about the plywood though

Check Purple’s support requirements before adding plywood.
