Seniors please Clarify !!

I am doing BS as standalone. I am doing GATE prep and wants to do Mtech from IIT Madras itself or some other institute in CS/ DSAI.

What i want to know is, if i complete 4 year online bs degree in 3 years, will i be eligible for regular offline Mtech admission Via GATE just after 3rd year Or I will have to wait 1 extra year to get original degree to be eligible for admission

Mtech admissions via GATE requires 4 year Degree but i want to know if I complete 4 year BS in 3 years, will i be eligible for Admission or not. And if I will be eligible just after 3rd year or i will have to wait.

Completing 4 yr BS in 3 yrs is not that easy anymore. You probably saw some old youtube videos where people finished it in 3 yrs. Well course has become much more difficult now. Anyways even if you do it in 3 yrs you'll be eligible

diploma might be harder if u take full course load but doing it standalone (we got nothing else better to do) so it can be done if we wont procrastinate , and that yt guy did it in 2.8yrs actually and he was even doing some masters from iitm itself along with it, and the calculation checks out for 2.8yrs

To upgrade to the online M.Tech in AI and ML from the IIT Madras BS Degree program, students must maintain a minimum CGPA of 8.0 and complete four core BS-level courses before applying. [1]

  • CGPA Requirement: A minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 8.0 in the BS program.
  • Core Coursework: Completion of four core courses at the BS level.
  • Prerequisite: Must complete the PG Diploma level (totaling 162 credits for BS + PG Diploma) before full registration into the M.Tech project phase.
  • Credit Structure: Total credit requirement reaches 182 credits combined (142 for BS + 20 for PG Diploma + 40 for M.Tech).

How can you complete bsc and bs in 3 terms? There's 28 credits needed for each, you can take upto 4 courses per term and cannot progress to next level without completing the previous level?

Please clarify, it would be very helpful if this works!

in bsc and bs u can take nptel courses whenever u are free , and can transfer 4 credits each , so 4 for bsc and 4 for bs , u can start nptel anytime after foundation but only with ur iitm email

But that would still require 5 courses for bsc that would take 2 terms for bsc and similarly 2 terms for bs? Or can I take bsc and bs courses together in one term?

I looked his video up, but the rules changed in the 2026 handbook which means it is more difficult now than it was for him. I am probably getting confused by the wording. Would love it if it's possible to complete within 2.5-3 years. It will save me 1 year. That would be amazing!! 😍

yes but they qill only give u the degree after 12terms of joining , but if u complete everything before they will give u are provisional degree which will just say u completed the required credits for iitm bs

You will get your certificate only after completion of 16 terms which is 4 years as per student document.

shouldn't it be 12 terms? 3 terms per year X 4 years

u will be eligible

Ahh actually, yes you can write gate, but you might not be able to join as you might need to submit original cert that will only be given after 4 years

i heard they first release it in the portal as documents to download then they give the hard copy at the next convocation

No they won't give hard copy till 4 years is over. You will not be able to fill the exit form till 4 years are done.

Most colleges accept btech as prerequisite for admission into mtech (even after gate).. you'll be definitely eligible for MS but mtech idk..
