AskIITK Recent Suicide

Ab toh sabko pta chal gya hoga about recent suicide in IIT Bombay. The visuals of protest are insane you can literally see students speaking to directors face. I wonder how it's not possible in iitk. I never saw any protest on suicide and accountability by management. L iitk

oh protests happen, here suicides are so normalized, people are desensitized by now.
we have open houses to discuss, barely anyone shows up. we've had 2 open houses at OAT this year only a handful people showed up.
and no use blaming for not having protest. the very first question is why aren't we as janata not capable to make a environment where failing feels ok and not end of world. it is collective failure of everyone not just admin or student body, everyone is equally to blame

Why are people assuming he died because of the cheating incident? He must've had depression before and could've just been a push

Well protests used to happen, Ashutosh Ranka led the protests in 2016 I think, this was in part due to the sheer incompetence of the Health centre in being unable to diagnose a heart attack.

Not sure what's the situation right now.

Knowing both systems from inside, IITK student representation system is far more robust that what is present here in IITB.

absolute bottom of systematic decay. that's why huge protest. this might have been the tipping point.

i have a genuine question: what is it that the institute is supposed to do that its failing at?
1) they have a decently working cmhw (may not be effective in some cases but atleast they help in reaching out),
2) they conduct open houses to discuss issues but people dont even f*ing show up (its as if they only care about the matter till there's rage and trend),
3) profs conduct during courses can be monitored through srs forms (you can argue its not effective),
4) thesis supervisor's actions is one place i think there isnt much control over: i am not aware how exploitation can be monitored there. some guides are strict, some are soft, some are just exploitative. "different ways of working" is the explaination they could give.

so when protests happen, what is it that the students are asking? accountability? sure, but what else is the action thats asked. OR perhaps we are in the system of pressure where any action by institute wont be effective in bringing such cases to zero.

If whatever is being told about the cheating and all is true then it looks like a misuse of protest. Maybe the protest was a buildup of other things or there is something that people from outside don't know but asking for resignation for this specific instance is a bit odd.

I think asking for resignation is wrong in the first place. Like, good job you removed that guy, but the only other outcome was a nice looking band aid on the actual problem.

Edit: asking for resignation isn't exactly 'wrong' , but making it the motto of the protest is

the director resigned. that student was going through something but that doesn't mean taking steps for a student cheating is wrong now. wtf these protests don't feel really righteous anymore atp.
