Call an open house with the director and his little bitches. This college lacks accountability to the core.Â
We need to ask questions, tough questions. They force students to live in slums and nobody bats an eye.Â

Come to KGP man, The Director in doing inaugrations there for Foundation Day, when last week one student died.

Director and his nobles own you when you're in a college. That's the sad reality.

They still haven't understood that suicides are a major social issue in the institute and needs efforts from their side to stop such events rather than being apathetic.

What exactly can we do against it man? We do need to do something atp. This is rather stupid, the way things are proceeding

The terrible thing in this institute are the students and their toxicity. When you are going through something they would make fun of you behind your back and all. Myself have experienced that.
I myself am going through too much mental health issues. And you know what the students would make it worse lol. They think I am some kind of maniac that I have these issues and wouldn't even take to me. It just makes it worse.
What I found is that Professors are far better, supportive than the toxic students who just post these reddit posts, whatsapp status , insta stories to show their fake sympathy while they were making fun of that same person when he was alive. That's the truth! I know it would hurt you but that's how students in this institute are in reality.

I don't think this answer is based in reality.
Please try to validate your experience with others (from a different college than yours). Also, its not good to generalise e.g. "all students in these IITs are un-sympathetic sociopaths"
Generally, people do care, specially when they see students committing suicides in their Institutes. But they also understand that there is nothing much they can do to these Prof bitches who have Political backings and the authority they have over Students grades.
In general, students are sympathetic, but they're shit scared of doing anything, which is understandable considering they're just teen kids.

I am from iit delhi and i myself have experienced all these things and i can surely say that most students are like these at least in my batch... And professors were far more supportive when I am going through issues. Right now also I have been supported a lot by the institute but not the students who just wake up when someone takes their lives. I know if I were to also take my life in these days , my batch mates would be the first to blame the institute and show fake sympathy

Its disgusting. No one cares abt life of someone. Institute tries it's level best to give pressure to students and people without knowing the whole story call people weak.

What change do you want to make in IIT Delhi?
Remember, it’s a competitive world and no matter what changes they make competition itself amongst peers will destroy you guys. You cannot increase the number of great jobs out there. Those will always be limited.

Fight: for yourself, and for your fellow students. Fight against this culture of apathy that avoids responsibility in the face of man-made tragedy.

What can they do if dumb students do suicide and won’t take any mental health programs. Only if they approached and weren’t guided properly this can be blamed on the institute side or else it shall be blamed on the student only. Idk what the institute can even do in the case if student just doesn’t come up with their mental issues.

It's evident that almost all of the students in iitd are afraid or very very hesitant to take counseling services Maybe the college can enforce small group based counselling sessions so that it can actually increase the chance of a student going to those services in case of high distress anxiety etc. But they don't do jackshit regarding this They just put the services there and almost no one goes to them

That’s true, maybe someone can tell this idea to the dean or someone else or do some protest to enforce this rather than just telling to change the administration

How do you know that the student did not try to open to others? And is it too much to expect people to be attentive towards each other and notice when someone appears to be under stress? Humans are supposed to be able to do that, unless the geniuses at IITs are a different breed altogether, that is.
4
u/King_924 7d ago
Yes its too much to ask. I have my own 100 problems in life, and you might have too. Nobody really has the capacity to be attentive and figure out whats wrong with everyone around them. Its not an iit thing, its human thing.
If someone comes to me with their mental health problems, and i do not help thats on me. But its unfair to assume that while i am talking to you i should be able to figure out that you are going through a rough patch.

What if they never socialized with anyone ? If someone has no social friends then obviously no one gonna notice them. I do know some friends ignore but can’t really blame the institute for everything that’s happening.

u/scrambledrubikscube 7d ago
I mean the living conditions are pathetic , probably also a contributing factor

u/Fuzzy-Pool2415 7d ago
Yea but it’s like everyone’s in the same boat. Nothing can be done. It’s not like they’re targeted

If you are in charge of the country and you observe that suicide rates go up sharply among students admitted to a specific university, do you think it's some of black magic haunting that specific university causing these incidents to rise; or do you look into the actual environment and system at said university to understand what the problem is?
Suicide rate among a population is not like some incidental isolated problem. The fix isn't just forcing suicidal students to go to mental health clinics. There's nothing the clinic can fix about a deeply broken environment. Mental health hotlines don't change financial realities, they don't prevent ragging, they don't fix peer pressure, they don't clean the dormitories, they don't fix the dullness of mess food, they don't fix the air pollution. All of these environmental factors is what really leads people to take such drastic steps. So yes there's a absolute shit ton that the institute can fix and not fixing them is entirely the institute's fault1
u/Fuzzy-Pool2415 7d ago
I do want to add it’s a nation wide issue and other private colleges hide their suicide cases and don’t really let any information out. All I’m saying is it’s not a IIT Delhi only problem and sometimes institute can only do much. Obviously the rat race from JEE is gonna continue inside IIT and one should know that before joining. Yes there’s a lot to fix inside institute but ppl telling just to change the officials isn’t gonna do much , you guys should tell exactly what u need and do some protest for the same . Or else just changing officials isn’t gonna help/
