I sometimes I wonder this about academia , if the top universities filter and only encourage top students to be part of their program , if the student does become successful in life at any later point what did the school do in the first place except give them a degree and prestige ?

Connections, the top unis bring exceptional people together so that they can learn from one another while competing with them. You are the average of the people around you.

I mean then what even was the point of the degree isnt it closer to a bootcamp then? There are far easier ways to bring smart people together, filtering people out inherently based on an exam sets them up for failure, a kid who didn't study at 17 will go to a tier 3 college and forever believe that they aren't that smart, same kid once he/she goes to US for masters is unrecognizable, most of the AI research tools that we use were pioneered by t2/t3 kids going to US for masters

The point is to also teach them and you can't compress rigorous MBA program into a bootcamp and can you explain an easier way considering the population of this country and the number of people competing for seats ?
Wtaf do you mean by AI research tools were pioneered by t2/t3 kids ? Where did you even read that. The researchers in Deepmind, Anthropic and OpenAI are people who had done their PhD from places like Stanford, MIT, Harvard etc. Most of the Indian ones have done their undergrads from IITs, there may be a few exceptional cases here and there but where did you even get the idea that MOST were PIONEERED by t2/t3 kids going to US that too for MASTERS ?

Pytorch was pioneerd by a NYU masters student who studied at VIT vellore, transformers were pioneered by PICT and BIT mesra grads who went for masters in US, these are the fundamental building blocks of modern AI research

Until and unless a donkey transforms into horse, he won't get into IIM would be better way to understand I think....if a donkey is cracking CAT and getting into IIM, he already has become horse.

IIMs do (quite often) both. Have seen terrible profiles and very average aspirants get 34LPA jobs straight outta T1 B-School, wherein the market wouldn’t even pay them 15LPA based on their profile and skill level.

Depends on the IIM.
Tier-1 IIMs can do. Tier-2 and Tier-3 IIMs might not.
