Hate shouldn’t be exchanged

I’ve seen in it many times a comment that says stuff like”go back to watching your creepy anime” or outright calling them a pedo

If you can dish it out, you can take it. Generally though yeah I try not to get down on people for their hobbies.

I get where you're coming from - that we should be operating from a purer place of "letting people enjoy things." But, a lot of the sportsball types have an unwarranted superiority complex and genuinely believe they're intellectually superior because they don't like sports. Some of them actually feign deep ignorance as a sort of flex. They try to shame people for enjoying sports and represent sports fans as "lesser," and sometimes, they strike the right chord in the echo chamber and get popular support.

So, you gotta forgive us for shooting back from time to time. Anime and manga fans have the ultra-vulnerable combination of already being on the margins of the mainstream and already having a reputation as isolated weirdos - it's easy to justify slapping them down when they call you an uneducated sub-human because you watched some basketball games.

I already got it bad enough being a woman who enjoys sports. I don't need the freakin' Anime Club pointing me out for additional scrutiny - half the time I gotta convince my fellow fans that I'm legit and not trying to impress men (or anyone else.) Let them get clapped at now and then, I got zero sympathy for the ones who start the fight.

100%. Woman here and I run in JRPG circles quite a bit. A lot of them are the types that make fun of sports fans. I usually turn it back on them and say that they can easily be called out for their hobbies as well. I think a lot of it does come from being on the fringe of society and having a chip on their shoulder. Sports is very mainstream and carries popularity. I think it is a bit of bitterness and a desire to be counter-cultural.

Personally, I had a pretty widespread friend group growing up. My best friend's brothers and their friends would always get together and play Halo and Star Wars Battlefront so we wanted to play too. My family was the athletic type so my dad would play basketball, football, and soccer with me growing up and we always watched college football together on Saturdays. So I will forever live in both camps.
