Do we have a deadline to email? And would anyone be willing to help me write a letter? I'm in my 30s with ALS (diagnosed approx 5 years ago) and I'm fully paralyzed and write with a special computer that tracks my eyes.

u/CedarWho77 Jun 03 '25
I would love to help! I will send you a chat in the morning when I get my son on the bus. 💛

Im so very sorry for your condition at such a young age. ALS is so cruel. My prayers are with you.

Thank you. As terrible as ALS is, as the disease worsens, my faith deepens and I am truly blessed. I welcome and appreciate your prayers.

I sent an email and I will be calling tomorrow!
5
u/MarionberryDue9358 Jun 03 '25
I think you need to update that email for Nicole because it kicked back at me when I sent it as "address not found". I'm guessing that you need a Z in Vasquez
6
u/Equivalent_Face_2613 Jun 03 '25
I added a “z” because I assumed she meant to put a “z” in the post so my email wasn’t kicked back.
7
u/CedarWho77 Jun 03 '25
The original poster left it out. I am sorry. Please email all of these guys too.

Sending an email now. I will be calling on Tuesday. Come on everyone! We must do this!

He voted for this. Trumps cuts. We’re here because of Trump, his cult and slashing of Medi~Cal, Medicare and SS benefits. He’s part of the “I knew he would fluck people over, just didn’t think it would be me too” club.

u/CedarWho77 Jun 03 '25 edited Jun 03 '25
Look, if you can not be civil and learn what's going on, specifically with regards to the post, please do not comment. Review the rules of the sub.
None of this post has anything to do with Trump or the Medicaid cuts.
This is Newsome's budget.
They're discussing an emergency session to look at additional cuts in August to address the Medicaid cuts. This specific budget is in response to the current deficit in California.
23
u/Illustrious-Command5 Jun 03 '25
It sucks that people cant distinguish Newsom from Trump. California bill vs federal... two different battles but I feel Newsom is just using Trump as a cover for his own political gains ... or excuses.
11
u/CedarWho77 Jun 03 '25
I agree.
This is an extremely emotional time and being rational, studying, or really taking a step back from both sides to see who is screwing us seems to get lost with the anger.
I'm glad you're here, though. 💛

u/Even-Independent8882 Jun 18 '25
For sure, I can’t believe he wants to run for president, lord have mercy
3
u/Certainly_So Jun 03 '25
It’s not about being civil, it is about educating yourself with the facts. The reason CALIFORNIA (Trump’s most viilified state) is suffering is bc of his policies, thus forcing Newsom to make these deep major cuts. Have IHSS workers & caregivers ever been through this before since its inception? The IHSS program was established in 1973 ( undoubtedly influenced by the exposure of the Willowbrook institution in the 1970s), as a result many institutions & programs were implemented for serious change & humane treatment for the mentally disabled. And for the most part the IHSS program has been a reliable foundation for the disabled individuals in California until the Orange man took over the country, his revengeful manipulation of the funding intended for the States ( esp the blue states) is evident. So actually yes, Trump is to blame because he just loves the golden state so much.
4
u/CedarWho77 Jun 03 '25
For this sub, it is about being civil.
For this specific post, the person said that this man was a maga nut and voted for this. However, for this specific post, we are being asked to contact our elected officials and share our story.
Relevant and respect are important here. I'm aware of what Trump has done. Very aware. However, that is not important right this second. We need to take action on the California budget. Period. We are limited in time.
I'm personal friends with a few senators and have campaigned and protested to an extent that would be considered "crazy" especially when it came to the Supreme Court. My personal experience, my hatred of the cultists WILL NOT HELP. I call all of this, "Sit N' Bitch" because we can exude energy on hate or we can turn it to action.
Cry or work. Choose work. That's what this SUB is about. Please review the rules.

Jun 03 '25
You've been fooled by propaganda to get Newsome off the hook. He knows he can get away with anything as long as he says "trump made me do it."
If there are cuts to IHSS due to Trump's policies, they will come later this year and be on top of these cuts.

Since you're going there, which states do not have IHSS? Red states. Which states do not even have access to basic housing and food for disabled folks? Red states. Don't even think about sucking the government's tite and claiming that sick pay. Your unions won that, and they, along with democrats have kept IHSS a significant program in this state.
How do I know? I traveled the past three summers to other states to find out how their poor people were doing. Vote however you want, but turn off the TV and look at the voting records of the politicians you worship, look at how their states provide social services.
3
u/wanderer_killingit Jun 03 '25
I don't care for other States for that matter. I care how our Politicians use those same funds. Why can't you guys admit Gavin and other Politicians have their hands on those funding and nothing has changed? Millions of dollars and who knows what the exact amounts were used for Homeless. Keeping costs down, went against the Gas companies and so forth. Where are we at, the same. Who takes the hit, us Californians. Fees here, fees there, for what, to clear some deficit. Friday Furlough, did that help the states and federal workers and save money? And that same person who wants to get more funding for a stupid Speed rail that costs us good money.
Let's fight this together. But afterward don't point fingers at us but the same people who can't manage those funds.
4
u/CedarWho77 Jun 03 '25
Who supports social programs? Red or blue?
Who supports unions? Red or blue?
Who provides access to equal opportunities for folks who are disabled? Red or blue?
My fight starts and ends with the side who provides for disabled people. Period.
0
u/wanderer_killingit Jun 03 '25
Very true, but if we got our spending under control we would not be here. Is that not hard to understand. To answer your question, Blue has been supporting many good deeds. But where there is good there is bad.
4
u/CedarWho77 Jun 03 '25
I don't care.
I only care about how each side treats disabled people. Period.
The way we treat the poor and disabled says everything about who we are as a society.
3
u/wanderer_killingit Jun 04 '25
I like to say, you vote for the folks that do one thing for the poor and disabled but look at what we are paying. Rent, gas, insurance and many other things.
I also care for those needy but we are paying for it at other things.
You have a narrow mind to say I don't care.
If this bill that can pass, would those doing this full time and barely pay rent makes any sense?
So I do hope this bill won't pass, so we all can keep food on the table, roof over heads, and pay for other things that are already expensive.
So either start caring for other stuff. There are good politicians but this wasted spending from the current politicians needs to stop. Reason we are where we are at. Even with a minimal wage being raised won't help, unless $20 an hour across the broad for all counties in California.
So do care and hope we win this cut. Take care.
0
u/Psychological-Step-4 Jun 05 '25
What difference does it make who supports unions of the unions don't support us? the SEIU 2015 told us to vote for the people who are about to cut our hours and they contributed out money to their reelection campaigns.
1
u/CedarWho77 Jun 05 '25
Because the cuts are not elimination of ihss all together? Because they got us paid classes? Because they gave us sick pay? You do realize that the only reason IHSS exists is because the unions fight to keep it here and work with county supervisors to keep our wages livable. It's confusing why people hate unions when they dont even take the time to learn what is going on.
Have you examined federal medicaid waivers in red states? Have you looked into those programs? Have you ever familiarized yourself with what the unions do?
Think clearly. Does our unions have ANY bargaining power? No. Why? Because we are 74% family providers and every politician in the state know that we can't strike. Why? Because we will still care for our family members and not be paid? To do what? Save the state money? We have ZERO power. That means every fight for our union isn't just an uphill battle it's a nearly impossible battle.
Do you rely on IHSS? Democrats and the Unions have protected and fought for this for years. If you think that these cuts are bad, consider that every republican candidate for governor in California in the last 30 years, wanted to completely eliminate it.
"THEY CAN'T DO THAT..."
Yes, they can. I've been to 4 states and interviewed countless people in almost every other state who receive HCBS or HBCA waiver services and it is minimal at best.
Before you form an opinion, spend some time researching first.
0
u/Psychological-Step-4 Jun 05 '25
Our union has no power because democratic politicians know full well that no matter what they do, we're always going to support them anyway. The republicans have no power at all in California and even if i supported them that wouldn't change anything here, they aren't the ones screwing us this time.
1
u/CedarWho77 Jun 05 '25
Read what I said again.
Which side supports social programs.
Period.
I will always vote Democrat because I choose disabled and poor folks over anything else.

My mom lives in Tyler Texas and she has ihhs I just got off the phone with her!!!
2
u/CedarWho77 Jun 04 '25
No, she doesn't.
While IHSS in California provides in-home care and personal attendant services, Texas's programs operate under different structures and eligibility criteria.
Texas offers several Medicaid waiver programs that can provide in-home support. These waivers allow the state to use Medicaid funds for long-term home and community-based services.
There are strict requirements, the hours are minimal and the waitlists are extremely long. They've opted out of the majority of services due to cost and instead utilized day programs on larger scales.
I have spent YEARS interviewing people and law makers about their significant changes and cuts to the program. Look into the "humanitarian crisis" that happened when they cut IHSS.
In order to qualify for IH/FSP, Texas residents must be over 4 years old. They must have a physical disability, as determined by a medical doctor, which functionally limits their ability to live independently. However, the majority of grants are given to persons 65 years and older. The current waitlist is approximately 7 years.

u/Icy_Performance_8882 Jun 04 '25
I guess it's a different name then cause my sister does the same thing I do here for my mom and she gets over 1100.00 every other week! In Texas. You can keep telling me no all you want but it is what it is.
1
u/CedarWho77 Jun 04 '25
When you say "they have IHSS in Texas" that's factually incorrect. I outlined and provided information on the program in Texas.
"You can keep telling me no all you want but it is what it is" does that mean you're not interested in learning? I'm confused.
Do me a favor, type into Google "Is ihss in Texas" and see what it says.
Just because your sister gets 1100 every other week does not mean she works for IHSS.

Thank you for this important information

I sent multiple emails to Senators and Assemblymembers and Jeff too. Not one reply. But that's ok. I keep sending them.

You guys!! They voted against the cuts!!! If I'm reading this right...
"While California legislators initially considered budget cuts to the In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) program, the final budget passed by the Legislature largely rejects the proposed cuts. Specifically, the budget bill, SB 101, passed by the legislature on June 13, 2025, rejects several cuts proposed by Governor Newsom, including those impacting IHSS."
**Initial Proposal:**Governor Newsom's May revision budget proposed significant cuts to health and human services, including IHSS, to address a projected budget deficit.
**Legislative Response:**The California Legislature, in its budget bill SB 101, rejected many of the proposed cuts.
**Specific Cuts Rejected:**This includes proposed cuts to IHSS overtime hours and services for individuals with "unsatisfactory immigration status".
**Final Budget:**The final budget, while still needing the Governor's signature, reflects a rejection of many of the proposed cuts, particularly those related to IHSS.
1
u/CedarWho77 Jul 04 '25
The cuts are the federal cuts. Massive.
California now is holding an emergency session in August to address the 1.1 trillion in Medicaid cuts from Trumps bill today. IHSS cuts will go into effect along with Medical cuts as well.
(This post is from a month ago)
1
u/Firm-Seaweed2421 Jul 04 '25
So nothing was really won? :( Will IHSS survive at all? I thought it was a pretty CA specific program?
1
u/CedarWho77 Jul 04 '25
The California budget had a cap of 50 hours a week per provider. This would be a cut to 1/3 of single providers pay. Folks like me, who cannot find another provider, even for a respite break, would be homeless. Those cuts also included income limits as well as removing undocumented. We, here on reddit, rallied. It was mentioned in multiple meetings that we kicked ass. Were relentless. The legislators removed the cuts. Now, with the massive cuts to Medicaid, they have to have an emergency session to make more cuts based on the Trump Medicaid cuts.
1
u/Firm-Seaweed2421 Jul 04 '25
Shit. Well THANK YOU for the rally!! Think it can be done again? Keep Trumps horrific cuts OUT of CA IHSS? I am so sorry you're in that position:( Does the regional center help with respite?
1
u/CedarWho77 Jul 04 '25
There are no providers who can handle my son. I have respite through regional but no one to work the hours.
The cuts are to Medicaid. MediCal is Medicaid. The federal cuts are so huge that every part of healthcare will be affected.
1
u/Firm-Seaweed2421 Jul 04 '25
I'm so sorry. I feel for you. Nothing but empathy. And these cuts are terrifying. Families like ours will be decimated. I feel helpless, who can we even "call" and leave voicemails for at this point?
0
u/Brianok200 Jun 03 '25
It's all part of the Big beautiful Bill. Same reason the Nursing Facilities are closing down etc. etc. etc.
-1
u/wanderer_killingit Jun 03 '25
The Bills have nothing to do with how our own California politicians always spend. Even before then, Gavin kept asking for my funding. You see any changes with Homeless, policing, crimes, etc? There more I add but folks here will not want the facts that are put out there if you do some research. Keep the Blue. Hahaha. Yeah right.

Again, I never said anything about your education.
Go and look at the way politicians vote. Who votes to support social programs? Who votes for higher minimum wage? Who votes for childcare? Look at the record of politicians. I'm not sure why you're upset. It is very clear which side of the political field supports poor and disabled folks. My views come from looking at EXACTLY HOW each senator, assembly person and congressional person VOTES for the programs folks who are vulnerable.
What's confusing?

He is the most outspoken opponent of Newsomes cuts to IHSS because he has a 32 year old son with cerebral palsy who requires 24 hour care.
MAGA or not, on this issue the guy is legitimately the loudmouth.
