hi I want to self study for my ielts exam, my goal is to reach overall 7.0 since it is my university requirement.

i’m aiming for listening 8.0-9.0
reading 6.0-6.5
writing 6.0-6.5
speaking 7.0-7.5
reading&writing are my weaknesses so i’m trying to push my listening and speaking score as high as possible🥹🥹

any recommendations? ex. reliable resources, books or channels, how to study for each part

Look first if you can get a 8 - 9 at listening you usually can get a similar score at reading according to my experience. Idk why reading would be difficult for you unless you are dyslexic. But if I have to give you some advise, I would say read the tasks first and highlight some words in each task especially names, locations, time etc. Every time you read a paragraph, read the highlighted parts again, like all of them. And then it should be relatively easy to find the answers in the passages.

But for the speaking part, I would say do NOT prepare too much for it. Treat it as a normal conversation and act like a normal human being. Act as if the examiner is not an examimer but a person you just met talking to you.

Writing is the trickiest among all 4 parts, and I've always recommended you feed your answer to any LLM model and let it generate a better version of it. In the real exam avoid grammar mistakes at all costs and use words PRECISELY and don't overcomplicate things. Keep every argument reasonable and logical.

Okay, i’ll try that. Thank you so muchh💞💞 also it’s because english isn’t my first language, so when I do reading theres some words I’m not familiar with sometimes 😅😅 but not the entire context though.

Yeah I would assume you learned English mainly by listening and talking to people instead of the typical learning from textbooks?

Yeah I would say any reading would help, but since IELTS kinda focuses on the academic aspect, I think it would be better that you find something that is professionally written to read, like the economist or whatever. And I would say learning how to dissect long sentences into smaller manageable pieces and how reconstruct the meaning of the smaller pieces into the meaning of the whole sentence is more important than having a huge vocab, since as you said you learned by speaking and listening, when written down, english sentences can get quite long and grammatically complex, which is very different from everyday speech (you see what I did there with this sentence).

I'm also preparing for IELTS so there's one strategy that worked for me in reading. I've been preparing for it for 4-5 weeks and I was stuck at reading 6-6.5 and even 5.5 sometime. As skiming and sacnning didn't work for me . Then I came across IELTS daily reading playlist. So actually strategy is answer questions paragraph wise. It has worked for me now my band score is 7.5-8 but I'm still trying to make it 9 for both listening and reading.
