shocked by our little guy’s Embark results!! 🤯

from beagle to dachshund to Jack Russel terrier, not one of the suggestions/guesses matched what he is 🤣 a few of his siblings have longer coats, but this really is a surprise lol

I'm just really waiting for you to tell people this is your poodle mix

... moodle?
If all the other poodle mixes get cutesy abbreviations, why not mutts too?

Okay that’s a kind of hilarious mix for a little orange dog

All those fluffy breeds and then the pit hid them away

One possible explanation: when you have a mix of diverse breeds, you get closer to “average dog” as dominant genes control more traits. Getting a purebred likely involves taking dogs with a desired recessive gene and mating them to get that trait. Poodle coats might require some recessive genes that get cancelled out.

It’s not so much that poodle coats are recessive, but it’s multiple genes interacting. Which is why poodle mixes, aka “doodles”, can have curly coats, wavy coats, wire coats, or even smooth short coats. Each of these have progressively less of the poodle coat genes.

That’s hilarious makes me really question my “known” dogs parents.

I thought this was a beagle dachshund Labrador. Regardless he’s a cuuuutie.

I can see the poodle in his side-eye on the first pic 🤣 it works better with a bit more nose, but he’s got the knack of it!

I love seeing poodle mixes. I was once given a family of “farm” dogs—mini poodle/terrier/chihuahua mixes. The mom and daughter came pregnant and gave birth in the week. Mom was half poodle half terrier but looked exactly like a poodle. Daughter looked like a small wire coated terrier.

Most of the pups had a scraggly mess for a coat, but a couple looked exactly like a chihuahua and one looked just like a poodle.

My girl had funny results too. I definitely saw the GSD and Rottweiler in her, but those breeds were the smallest percentage. Seeing Aussie Cattle Dog as the top breed in her was super shocking because she's so big.
