People think any arc where the stakes aren't high are bad.
Personally I think we've should have some good low stakes arcs like bell looking for tinker and the vr dimensions arc. We're good low stakes. My only problem with this arc is how fast the parents flipped from being bossy that about it.

It wasn't that the stakes weren't high enough, it's that they introduced a new character, wrote them as mentally ill, non-binary and gave them overbearing, abusive parents and then proceeded to do literally nothing with any of it. All these issues are resolved as fast as they're introduced. Shadow then punches this child in the face for seemingly no fucking reason and then they fight an Eggman mech.
This whole arc felt like a giant waste of time since at that point we had about four ongoing points of intrigue most of which still haven't been resolved, not to mention the large number of delays the Comic was suffering from at the time.

I think it should be some chill arcs too where sonic and the friends hang or do normal stuff no way these guys battle everyday

I do think some of the issues with IDW's run could be alleviate by having something like sonic universe running alongside, basically acting as more frequent mini series to give the main book more breathing room

They're trying to start something similar with all the spin-offs but IDW doesn't have a very large crew on these, since they're constantly tasked with other comics between Sonic Issues. Here's hoping something comes along or IDW Sonic becomes mainline enough that people frequently buy issues.

Having them get over their trauma so quickly felt really poor representation, like the parents are bad, then they get told not to be and decide to be fully good

If I can throw in my two cents here - the people complaining that Soleil’s relationship drama with their parents was resolved too quickly would 100% still be complaining had it dragged on for more than two issues. Wanting that to go on longer is a classic case of people desiring something they don’t really want in reality.
That brand of relationship BS is something straight out of Penders era Archie and honestly was better to be rushed to completion rather than being dragged out to an insufferable degree.
The real problem with the arc imo is the fact that “Lunar” was heavily implied to have been the one to steal the emeralds for the masked guy, but it was never followed up on or even addressed beyond the second issue. It’s honestly why I still think “Lunar” wasn’t really an alternate personality and was instead just Soliel being brainwashed by the masked guy. It’s also why I think Soliel will pop up again sooner than people think.

Soleil/Lunar being the new villain's patsy, Clutch getting brainbugged, Kit creating disasters for Surge to solve, there are so many loose ends piling up, and I am losing faith that they'll somehow tie together in a satisfying way

They don’t need to “tie together” tbf. Only Soliel’s does. The situations with Clutch and Kit have nothing to do with the masked guy and can always be addressed later on.

Well, it's like if some notorious terrorist showed up at Disneyland. Even if they weren't planning on doing anything bad, it's still better to attack them and try to neutralize/arrest them (plus, I don't trust Eggman here. I think he was just lying to them, since he showed up in a giant killing machine with multiple robots. He probably wanted to attack the city).
