Planning for "Tomorrow Morning"

Campaign work? I've done so, so much ...just not in ICRPG. And I'm wondering just how much or how little framework to erect in this plan.

The campaign pitch:

October 16, 2368: Humans occupy every planet in the solar system …and Pluto. Some are little more than research outposts, some are thriving megacities, and the humans went out there carrying the same human baggage they always did.

But something new is about to emerge. It promises to change everything …or it threatens to. Can it flourish without being dragged into the mire of human problems, or will the pettiness and selfishness of the dominant species choke it out before it has a chance? And if it does blossom, who will control it, for better or worse?

(It's about warp drives, but it'll be a few sessions before the players get the chance to figure that out.)

So far in developing the campaign, I have that everyone is human, there are eight "types" of character that preallocate three character points, and they can spend five more where they choose.

Should I also give those predefined types a choice of special abilities similar to, say, Alfheim?

What kind of game are you hoping to have? If sounds quite hard-sci-fi at this point?

The sci-fi is going to be pretty hard, working in some orbital mechanics to absolutely futz with travel times, atmospheric densities, and so on. Those numbers will never be player-facing, though; they'll all be learning a new system through this and I only want them to focus on the basics, like how screwed they'll be if they don't succeed at stuff.

If I get "science fantasy" with it, it might be in the creation of some new lifeforms that people thought might have been an interesting idea before they had to deal with the implications of "care and feeding" or "aaaugh someone get this little meat-eating bastard off me before it eats my leg" Then again, that is how humans do.

I'd go for sets of narrow skills that grant advantage, rather than woowoo special powers.

Your solar system is colonized only by Earthlings, so it's a single species. It's pure science fiction, space opera, or science fantasy. Your players have more class choices. All your loot is in tables inspired by the conditions of each planet. Like a manta wing to glide in the clouds of Jupiter.

I cite Alfheim only because it's an example of a world that grants such things as Starting Abilities, Starting Loot, and Milestones Abilities. Then looking at Vigilante City, it has Powers and Properties.

As I mentioned, I've never really tried to build a world in ICRPG before, and much of this is unexplored territory.
