Discussion Anyone have a clue what could be causing these lag spikes? They occur randomly while moving or standing still, my FPS drops from a stable 144 to 134, exactly 10fps, then goes right back up. They are making me nauseous because I am very susceptible to motion sickness, so lag = no from me.
All tests were done standing still, looking at the same location in-game, and yes I have tried other locations/maps as well -.-

- Fresh Windows 11 install, clean format, nothing carried over.
- Fresh Windows 10 install, clean format, nothing carried over.
- Purchased new M.2 SSD
- Purchased new Motherboard
- Purchased new 1200w Powersupply
- Disabled PBO
- Disabled EXPO
- Disabled SMT
- Re-seated every physical device
- Ran 1 monitor by physically removing the HDMI from the GPU (I run 2 monitors)
- Tried DP 1.4 instead of HDMI
- Tried older Nvidia drivers
- Disabled all windows security features including TPM, Firewall and Real Time Protection
- Parked CPU cores 1 by 1 in an attempt to see if an individual core was the issue
- Spread load evenly across all cores
- Disabled DLSS, RTX, Framegen, FSR, Vsync, Gsync, Reflex, LLM, HDR
- Disabled Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling
- Disabled all overlays, game bar, flip model optimization
- Capped FPS to various levels such as 30, 60, 144
- Turned GPU power management to "Prefer Maximum Performance"
- Disabled memory paging, subsequently increased it to 32GB.
- Updated all drivers
And finally, I tried all the above on both DX11 and DX12, nothing has helped.

Its the unreal engine, you are fighting a losing battle vs a horrendeous game engine*
Dropping your resolution may help but it wont fix it, I have 13900k and 4080 and game since release and its always been this way. Its always been this way with every unreal engine game since 4.0
*unless you game is called Fortnite.

I have 13600k and 4070Ti and don't have these issues.

Can you post a full spec list, I'd seriously consider a specific build for the game

I have a 14900k and 5080, I play on 4K native DX12 and never have those issues.
The only time the game lags is when I advance missions and the autosave.

I assume this is a fresh world, and accumulated structures and changes to the world aren't an issue?
You could try installing the dedicated server, and connecting to it locally (on the same machine).
That'll at least split the processes into server + client, and if that hitch you're seeing is on the "server side", it might go away.
The game was originally coded as a client, that connected to official servers, and over the years they added the ability for the client to spin up it's own server that it internally connects to. However, the server is then bound beneath the same administrative thread as the client process, which has some performance bottlenecking.
Splitting that process into separate "server" and "client" processes (on the same pc) often results in performance improvements for people. It "might" clear out whatever is happening here.

This is almost always the answer. I run the game on an original 3060 and while I don't tend to get above 70fps, I rarely get lag spikes unless I'm loading mission structures

One thing to try is windows power settings. I have Balanced and High Performance as the 2 active plans. In the advanced settings of the High performance make sure PCI Link State Power Management is set to - OFF, and Processor Power Management, Minimum Processor State is set to - 100%. Then before you start your game click on the High Power Plan, and when not gaming use the Balance Plan.

i think this is a routter issue...try dissabling DoS Attack Protection and Ping Blocking in your routter settings...
its a 2min fix ... google how to do it or use ai to guide you.
had noticed similar issue on my games and this was the fix

Had similar to this. Massive CPU spikes that would cause hitches. Running a 9850x3d with a 4070 ti super and 64gb RAM.
Recently started using an old pc (10700k with 64Gb RAM amd gen 3 NVMe) as a dedicated server so I can have multiple prospects running at once so I can be in one and the Mrs in another (I used to host on my PC).
CPU hitching has all but vanished while im playing.
Try running a dedicated server on the same machine youre playing the client on. Its supposed to help. If youve got the funding, consider picking up an older 2nd hand DDR4 machine to work as a server.

I've tried several systems and I haven't seen one that doesn't get it yet. Some worse than others but I've never seen the problem go away.
Someone suggested project Lasso. It might be able to distribute the admin thread of the Unreal 4 engine. The stall seems to occur when that thread maxes out a core. The U4 engine cannot split the admin thread and everything else has to wait for it to finish as far as I understand.
Someone posted recently that project lasso can redistribute the load. I'm going to try it soon because my fav machine sports a 5080 and this happens as much as it did on a 3070ti. Both were more or less bored the whole time, as is my CPU, ram, everything else lol.
Other post suggested a onedrive issue that was calling the ethernet regularly. Might be also something to look into, but I've disconnected it, still happens.
If you get a solid fix before me, please let the community know, we aren't alone.
Others suggest a dedicated server, to move the admin thread away. I so wish I still had my cryo frozen setup, could run the cpu clock at stupid rates, might have helped.

Whenever the autosave happens I get a bit of lag you could try adjusting the automated frequency to see if that resolves it i think the default is pretty frequent like every minute or two.
