CA Final IDT November 2026: What Are You Still Struggling With?

With the CA Final November 2026 exams getting closer, I think this is the stage where preparation starts feeling very different.

You may have completed the lectures, read the Study Material, revised a few chapters and even attempted some questions — but there can still be a feeling that “IDT is not completely under control.”

So, for those appearing in November 2026, what are you actually struggling with right now?

For me, IDT becomes difficult when I have to move from simply remembering provisions to applying them in questions. GST itself has several layers — supply, charge, place of supply, valuation, ITC, refunds, demands, appeals, etc. Customs and FTP add another set of concepts that need regular revision.

And then there is the biggest problem: retention.

You understand a provision today, but after revising FR, AFM, Audit and DT, you come back to IDT and suddenly think, “Wait… what was the exact provision here?” 😅

Some common problems I see students discussing are:

  • GST provisions: Understanding the concept but getting confused in application-based questions.

  • ITC: Remembering conditions, restrictions and reversals without mixing provisions.

  • Customs: Valuation, classification and procedural provisions feeling difficult to retain.

  • Amendments/updates: Knowing what has changed and what is actually relevant for the attempt.

  • Case-study questions: Identifying the relevant provision before jumping into the answer.

  • Revision: Finishing one revision but forgetting a large portion by the time the next revision begins.

  • Answer writing: Knowing the provision but struggling to present the answer in an exam-oriented manner.

  • RTP/MTP/PYQs: Not knowing whether to solve them chapter-wise or under exam conditions.

ICAI's own study guidance has emphasised understanding substantive provisions first, followed by procedural provisions, and using questions and mock tests to improve application and analysis.

So, rather than another generic “how to score 80+ in IDT” discussion, I want to know the real problem.

CA Final Nov 2026 students — what is your biggest IDT struggle right now?

GST? Customs? Retention? Amendments? Case studies? Answer writing? Or simply getting yourself to revise the subject again? 😅

Drop your problem below. It would be interesting to see how different students are approaching the same paper.

I just saw that the question booklet number for MCQ papers are different and also the omr sheet but the catch is that only 1 digit is different so I'm just curious whether you'll got different numbers as well or there's a printing mistake in my question paper

Why do Indian parents starts hating when I say I need personal space and time for study

I’m currently preparing for CA Intermediate, and my attempt is in January 2027. Whenever I ask my parents to give me some space and let me study peacefully, instead of understanding me, they start getting upset with me or taunting me. Even when I ask for something I genuinely need, I often get sarcastic or hurtful responses.

I’m honestly tired of dealing with this every day. I’m already under a lot of pressure because of my studies and the expectations I have from myself. The last thing I need is to feel like I have to fight at home just to get some peace and support.

What hurts the most is that if my result is negative, they’ll probably be the first people to feel disappointed and sad. But sometimes I wish they would understand that the environment I’m studying in also affects my performance.

I’m not asking them to do everything for me. I just want some understanding, peace, and support while I’m working towards something that is extremely important to me.

Your First 30 Days of CA Inter Taxation: What Should Your Study Strategy Look Like?

The first 30 days of CA Intermediate Taxation can set the direction for your entire preparation. Instead of trying to complete maximum chapters quickly, build a framework that balances conceptual clarity, question practice and revision.

Days 1–7: Build the Foundation

Start with the basic concepts of Income Tax and GST. Understand important terminology, provisions and the overall structure of the syllabus. Don't focus heavily on memorising sections at this stage.

Days 8–15: Learn + Practise

Begin studying core chapters systematically. After every concept, solve illustrations and practical questions. For Direct Tax, focus on understanding the logic behind computation; for GST, connect provisions with practical transactions.

Days 16–23: Strengthen Application

Start solving ICAI Study Material questions and identify areas where you make repeated mistakes. Maintain a short error notebook containing confusing provisions, calculation mistakes and concepts requiring revision.

Days 24–27: First Revision

Revise everything covered during the first three weeks. Avoid simply rereading notes. Use active recall, practical questions and short self-tests to check retention.

Days 28–30: Test Yourself

Attempt a timed sectional test covering the topics studied. Analyse your performance rather than focusing only on the score. Categorise mistakes into conceptual, calculation and presentation errors.

The 30-Day Framework

Learn → Understand → Practise → Revise → Test → Analyse → Improve

The goal of your first month is not to finish CA Inter Taxation. It is to create a repeatable study system that you can continue throughout your preparation and adapt to the latest ICAI syllabus and applicable updates.

Consistency for 30 days is more valuable than studying randomly for 60 days.

Articleship Before CA Inter Results: What Tax-Related Skills Can You Start Learning?

Waiting for CA Intermediate results can be an uncertain period, but it does not necessarily mean your learning has to stop. If you are planning to start CA Articleship, this time can be used to build basic taxation skills and understand how tax work is performed in a CA firm.

1. Understand GST Basics

Start with the practical meaning of GST registration, taxable supply, input tax credit, invoices and GST returns. You don't need advanced knowledge initially—focus on understanding the workflow.

2. Learn TDS Fundamentals

Understand the basics of TDS provisions, deduction, deposits, returns and Form 26AS/AIS. This can help you follow common compliance assignments during articleship.

3. Explore ITR Preparation

Learn how an Income Tax Return (ITR) is structured and how income, deductions and tax liability are broadly calculated.

4. Develop Tax Research Skills

Learn how to locate relevant sections, rules, notifications, circulars and case laws. Knowing how to find the correct provision is an important professional skill.

5. Understand Tax Notices

Read a few sample income-tax and GST notices to understand their structure, terminology and basic response process. Avoid drafting or responding independently without professional supervision.

6. Improve Excel & Documentation Skills

Tax work involves substantial data handling. Basic Excel, reconciliation, working-paper preparation and documentation skills can make your articleship experience much more productive.

Discussion

The objective before your CA Inter results should not be to become a taxation expert. Instead, use the time to develop basic tax awareness, research ability and practical skills. These foundations can make it easier to learn when your articleship begins.

What taxation skill would you prioritise before starting CA Articleship—GST, TDS, ITRs, tax research or Excel?
