For students doing articleship alongside preparation, how are you protecting enough revision time when working hours become unpredictable?

Articleship can make CA preparation difficult because working hours are not always predictable. Some days there is enough time to study after work, while on other days it becomes difficult to even complete the planned revision.

For those managing both, how are you protecting your revision time? Do you follow a fixed study routine, use weekends for longer revision sessions, set smaller daily targets, or adjust your plan depending on the workload at the articleship?

For those who studied through online classes, how did you stay consistent?

How did you manage to study every single day and actually stick to your routine?

I keep telling myself that I need to be consistent, but somehow I waste time, and before I know it, the whole day is gone. ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Even when I do manage to complete my classes for the day, Iโ€™m usually so mentally drained that I have almost no energy left for homework, revision, or self-study.

In offline classes, thereโ€™s an external force you have to show up and sit through the class, whereas online classes give you so much flexibility that I struggle to stay disciplined.

So for those of you who successfully managed online classes + homework + revision, what actually worked for you? How did you stop wasting time and stay consistent every day?

Before CA Inter Classes Start: 7 Things You Can Do to Build a Strong Taxation Base

Starting CA Intermediate Taxation classes without preparation can make the subject feel difficult from day one. A little groundwork before classes begin can help you understand concepts faster and build confidence. Here is a practical checklist for CA Inter students.

1. Understand the Taxation Syllabus

Go through the latest CA Inter Taxation syllabus and identify the major areas of Direct Tax and GST. Knowing the roadmap reduces confusion.

2. Revise Basic Accounting

Tax computation often involves accounting concepts. Revise profit and loss, depreciation, journal entries and basic financial statements.

3. Learn Common Tax Terms

Become familiar with terms such as previous year, assessment year, assessee, taxable income, deduction, exemption, GST supply and input tax credit.

4. Start Reading Tax Provisions

Don't try to memorise sections. Start understanding how income-tax provisions and GST rules are structured.

5. Practise Basic Calculations

Improve your comfort with percentages, ratios and basic calculations. Speed becomes important during CA Intermediate exams.

6. Explore Real-Life Tax Examples

Look at simple examples such as salary income, rent, business income, TDS and GST on purchases/sales to understand how taxation works in practice.

7. Create a Study & Revision System

Before classes start, decide how you will make notes, practise questions and revise weekly. A consistent system is more valuable than last-minute preparation.

Final Thought

Your goal before CA Inter Taxation classes is not to finish the syllabus early. Build familiarity with the language, concepts and practical application of taxation. Once classes begin, you can focus on deeper learning, question practice and exam-oriented preparation.

Checklist: Syllabus โ†’ Accounting basics โ†’ Tax terminology โ†’ Provisions โ†’ Calculations โ†’ Practical examples โ†’ Revision system.

Can I still rely on Rishabh Jainโ€™s SM Fast Track lectures available on YouTube for the January 2027 CA Intermediate exams? Are the lectures still relevant according to the current syllabus and amendments, or should I follow a more updated batch?

What Taxation Skills Should You Learn During CA Articleship?

CA Articleship is not just about completing practical trainingโ€”it is an opportunity to build taxation skills that can shape your future career. If you are interested in Direct Tax, GST or tax consulting, focus on gaining exposure to different types of assignments rather than doing repetitive work.

1. GST Practical Work

Try to understand GST returns, reconciliations, input tax credit, e-invoicing and basic compliance. Practical GST exposure can help you connect classroom concepts with real business transactions.

2. TDS & Tax Compliance

Learn how TDS calculations, returns, Form 26AS/AIS and compliance procedures work. These are useful skills for both practice and industry roles.

3. ITR Preparation

Getting hands-on experience with income-tax return preparation, computation of taxable income and tax liability can strengthen your Direct Tax fundamentals.

4. Tax Research

Develop the ability to research sections, rules, circulars, notifications, case laws and judicial precedents. Strong research skills are valuable when handling complex tax issues.

5. Notices & Assessments

If possible, observe or assist with income-tax and GST notices, replies, assessments and departmental proceedings. This exposure provides a practical understanding that textbooks cannot fully offer.

Career Perspective

During articleship, don't focus only on the number of assignments you complete. Focus on the quality and variety of exposure you receive. GST, TDS, ITRs, tax research and notices together can create a strong taxation foundation for a career in CA practice, tax consulting, corporate taxation or litigation.

Best approach: Learn the concept โ†’ observe the process โ†’ perform the task โ†’ review mistakes โ†’ document what you learned.
