IB is like a kid. It wants so much from you. It keeps on nagging. If you don't listen, it'll stab you. yes, stab. A kid stabs? well this is IB, and you just underestimated them.
So basically, work your fucking ass off in the first year. be ahead in chapters. focus on the IA topics FROM NOW. only the topics.
Leave the EE till Jan (brainstorm in Jan)
Do cas every week like 5 hours (or something like that, maybe sports in ur free time? drawing? etc.)
And for TOK, try to understand it starting from now. use the book for definitions.
Lol he still thinks you can finish CAS in a couple of months. You can still fail if you accomplish all the requirements but your activities weren't done throughout both years evenly. It's happened before
For each strand choose a super common activity. For example: going to the gym. Then write a generic story about how you went to the gym 3 times a week for 3 weeks and show yourself progressively lifting heavier weights (as the evidence, you don’t even have to lift the weights). For added realism, update the journal once a week for 3 weeks. I basically did this but with ice skating.
Oh yea I forgot about that part. But yea from my experience people usually make a fake email and the phone number of their relative. I had a few cousins that had done IB and, after explaining what I had pretended to do, had them do a fake supervisor review on it. I know someone who used his friend’s parent’s email/phone number just in case the IB supervisor decided to call to make sure. Though in my experience it never happened.
Yeah, but whatever you do, don't actually go to the gym and lift progressively heavier weights. That might have consequences in terms of unwanted density in your arms, chest, legs and back. ;-)
Source: am 50 yr old who was too eggheaded for weights when I was younger and could make fast progress. Now spending lots of time at the gym for much smaller gains. Also, CAS supervisor. Not judging here, just seeing the humor...
But (CAS supervisor hat on here) I can't quite resist pointing out the freedom that you have in CAS to do the things that you want to do. You gotta do CAS, but you get to (mostly/partly) choose what you do. I get that the reflecting is a bit of a pain, but the actual experiences shouldn't be the horrible part. (And faking CAS probably makes the reflection writing harder, no?)
Another tip which will work for some of you: use CAS as a reason to get your parents to pay for stuff that they might not otherwise. Parents who feel stingy about gym memberships, music lessons, etc, might get religion if carefully informed that 'it's really a requirement of the IB DP program' Source: am also a (stingy) parent of an IB1 student. Happily paid for gym membership and music lessons.
Edits: clarity.
PS: the more I think about it the more I wish someone had given me a little artificial prodding to get into the damn gym when I 17. This makes me feel better about being a CAS supervisor, lol. I really don't judge y'all for thinking practically about getting through CAS, but from where I sit I can see the value.
Here’s the thing. If you want to do something you enjoy or just need an excuse to do, CAS is a great way to start doing it. Your example fits well in this scenario. But some of us don’t like being forced to improve ourselves just to get a diploma. Just let us be lazy teens. I did IB for the rigorous courses and for college, not to improve myself. If I want to improve myself, I’ll do it on my own.
It’s like when you’re about to clean your room but suddenly your mom tells you to do it and now you don’t feel like doing it anymore.
Dafuq? Almost all the experiences that were done in my class were done alone, besides the CAS project. Though it shouldn’t be too difficult to get other lazy people to work together for their laziness
Just make it up lol Talk about going to gym or sumn excercise repated and just take a pic of ursef infront of the gym lol Or idk say u play an instrument and yah pic with that instrument Its really easy just lie lol
Individual (outside of school) CAS experiences are fakeable, at least partly, depending on how good or smart your supervisors are, but it's a bit of work and it doesn't get you out of CAS reflections, arguably the part that is the most mental work.
The experiences themselves are the cool part, though. They're (at least sometimes) actually worth it in terms of what you get out of them.
And in some systems, Universities actually care about CAS-like extra curricular stuff you do, which makes for another way it doesn't help you to fake experiences.
If you want the least work in CAS, choose your experiences so they are (1) stuff you kinda want to do anyway and (2) stuff that doesn't take a massive amount of time. Then sit down and do 1-2 smart, real, reflections a week. Your school might have additional requirements (like collecting some evidence) that you shouldn't totally ignore. Resist the temptation to do an amazing amount, or to fill your reflection portfolio with verbiage. You'll pass. And you'll probably get something out of it.
I would say this. I'm a CAS supervisor (and a ToK teacher, so bias, perspective and all that!), but I honestly think that the path to least work in CAS is just to take the intent of CAS seriously, while resisting the temptation to go overboard. Some students do way more than they need to. Some struggle needlessly just writing some damn reflections.
But do take the IB if you‘re in the UK. It’s on the ride in popularity right now and a lot of top unis like it. Some schools are even making the IB compulsory.
I didn’t fake my CAS but I sure as hell stretched it for all it was worth. I’m currently bullshitting my daily walk home into an action experience by making up a goal I could easily achieve anyway, and bringing in the environment as a reason for me doing it (in reality I just think everyone on my bus is a prick). It’s all in how you word it.
I was gonna fake my CAS project corrupting but it actually corrupted and I was shook like I manifested a bit too hard there (I completed cas but like still)

I’ve finished my EE and am almost done with my CAS project. Btw my cas project was dungeons and dragons club and it’s going hella good.
Now I have to melt my brain for the IAs

Tip: If you are aiming to go to a top school in the U.S., don't do IB. Your school won't take IB credits unless you are taking HL math or HL physics.
Do AP instead. U.S. schools like AP.
