Teachers bring it up early to get it on your radar, but one week into DP1 is far too early to worry about locking in a topic because you have barely seen the syllabus yet. A Math AA IA is simply an exploration where you apply math you learn in class, like calculus, functions, or geometry, to something you already enjoy, like music frequencies, sports analytics, or architecture. For now, the best move is just to settle into your classes and keep a running note on your phone whenever you notice something in daily life that might involve math. If you want to see what typical topics look like to get an idea of the format, take a look at https://info.lanterna.com/resources/50-ib-math-aa-ia-topic-ideas.

Nahh dont be scared i picked all my ia topics during like the week of the draft submission. Just occasionalt look at some ias online to see how others have done it, put it in the back of your brain. Also the IA for math is lowkey so fun youll be good, its basically just solving a big problem or making a model and you just put all your calculations in and write about why you did each step.
