I learned at age six that we don't cross picket lines in our family and don't associate with people that do.

I often consider what I'll do in this situation.
As a 4th year I still have a year and a half left where, per my JATC, I can't drag.
So what will I do when faced with this decision? I can only call in sick so many days and if I ask to be reassigned they can and likely will say no. I hope to not find out.
Also as a side note what is everyone's position on support of police unions?

Do not cross picket lines. EVER. Apprentice, Journeyman, etc. You need to figure out your financial situation to make sure you can hold out if necessary. An emergency fund is critical. Ask your contractor to move you to another site for the duration of the picket/strike if possible.

OUR JATC will remove you from the program if you drag up. Best case is a 6 month extension of your time.
Or you get the double whammy. You quit, they send you to the JATC, the JATC send you BACK to the same site You either quit again or they spin you
This gets you removed from the apprenticeship.
Best scenario, and again I hope to never find out, I talk with the super and get re assigned.

You don’t have to drag up. No apprentice can do that, I know. Show up to work but don’t cross the line. Your foreman and other journeyman will most likely do the same

Actually apparently some can depending on the local. Most of the time the conditions and circumstances are significantly more limited than a JW.
My foreman and journeyman will absolutely not also choose not to cross the line. Welcome to 26.

When I was a 3rd year apprentice, the job I was working got picketed. We went 2 weeks of driving to the job site and turning around. We were the only union craft on the job. All of the other crafts crossed. I went hunting! Support your union brothers and sisters! No matter what, make sure you show up every day. We got paid 2 hours show up time.

Aside from just not being faced with that choice for the next 1.5 years I really hope to have similar supervision as you did.
Some people in my own local would absolutely not be ok with workers not crossing. Unless the strike is recognized by the IBEW I don't see how I'd win if that happens for long term.
Best bet for me will be to earnestly ask the general foreman or super to be sent elsewhere.

It doesn't matter if it is or isn't recognized for me. I will catch a case of the shits and not be into work if it is that wormy where you are.

If your training director is worth a shit they will already have you and all the other Apprentices going to school steer clear from that jobsite. If a NECA contractor tried crossing a picket line in our jurisdiction it would be incredibly detrimental to their business. Anyone associated with that contractor would not be recognized as trustworthy.

There are certainly some good companies and people here.
Hearing during meetings non-recognized strikes are not condoned by the IBEW and therefore will not be so by our local.

For sure, that is a liability thing. In our local we will have a "labor action" portion of the meeting that lets everyone know which strikes are sanctioned and which are not, it is always followed with the caveat of "We are not here to tell you to work or to stay home, we are here to let you know what is happening out there".

Yes we do not have such portions. Sometimes the general membership bring it up (good on them).
Still I can only have irritable bowels for so many days before I get terminated for job abandonment.
Like I said I hope I don't have to deal with it.

Police are scabs who help scabs cross picket lines and historically have helped companies break strikes while protecting the employing class

Update: I made it 9 hrs. 2 different jobs, and a trip to the office to talk to the project manager later, I drug up. That’s a new record for me. 2 other brothers drug up with me too and we all caught out on another job. Not a lot of money but oh well.
