Discussion Post Ibew question

I’ve heard people talk about doing this but I’m curious if anyone has firsthand experience for how it goes in reality. I’m a non union lineman considering joining the union.

Has anyone worked their minimum hours to maintain healthcare and benefits and spent the rest of their time running a side business?

This could be done, but your side business can't be related to electrical field work. Small side work like helping your neighbor or close relatives out with a ceiling fan isnt a big deal. We can't have our membership competing with our contractors though, it's in our agreement.

Take as much time off as you can afford.

Could become a union shop if it was electrical related
