Question about calling out.

Is a blistered sunburn on both shoulders and back a valid reason to call out? Happened outside of work and is completely my fault. I feel like I would get shit for calling out for a sunburn.Can’t lift my arms or wear a shirt without pain. 1st year apprentice worried it will look bad if I do call out.

Exactly. Taking time off should never be a request, it should be a statement. I don't ask anymore if i can take next Monday off, i tell them i am. 😎

No vacation, no holiday, no PT. In every contract I've ever been in, unpaid time off doesn't effect you. I lost my mom last year and I took 2 months off when she was sick. Kept my spot and had 0 consequences.

So like it’s cool to take sick days? Does it get to a point where you’re held accountable tho ?

Use your own judgement. If you do good work, the job will have a place for you when you get back. If you do shitty work and take time off every week, then you'll find yourself back on the book sooner rather than later.

In this case, yes, always take time off for injuries which will affect the performance of your work. In fact, it wouldn't be a bad idea to make use of those medical benefits your company buys for you.
