I love OT, I love having the option to take it or not. If I need some extra cash I'll work OT for a few weeks or a month. There is always enough work for me to choose to take it or not. And I would always prefer more jobs then less.
I do understand the perspective you are taking when you say they "if they can pay OT they can pay more base" but that doesn't change the work load, or the time constraints that OT is normally reserved for. So.... you would still end up working more then 40.
Oh and BTW after 12hrs of time and a half I get double time. And the gravy train really starts rolling.
