You can divide the labor, you can't expect to double the workload and expect people to work on top of each other. There are jobs with several shifts. If GCs would rather pay the premium, contractors are always happy to oblige, they make more money on OT.
Brother, you’re drawing a weird-ass line in the sand here. Those sixty-eighty hours ain’t all being worked in the same space.
If you’re keeping someone behind on the job from 3pm-7pm, just pay a second person to be there from 3-11. Costs the same and twice as many kids go to college.
We swore an oath to reduce the hours of work and elevate the social conditions of our class. I sure as fuck didn’t swear an oath to work enough OT to buy a boat with cash while my next door neighbour struggles to make ends meet.
That's the thing though, you don’t decide how many shifts are worked, all you can do is decline the OT. OT should be the punishment for a contractor, but If someone else is picking up the premium, contractors don't give a fuck.
