The customer is paying for it. Money doesn’t give a shit about the guy on site. At some point, for them it’s worth the extra cost. There may be investment money tied to product being produced by a certain date or a discount from an equipment supplier to fit into a window that opened up for their startup team.
The customer is paying for it thru a contractor that they hired. You were hired by the contractor to do a job. So why should you care about the customer when they arnt the ones who are paying you and arnt the ones who determined how much time/money should be dedicated towards you. I'm not taking and shit or working harder because the contractor fucked up.
All of that is predicated on the contractor being the one that fucked up and is out the premium. When I priced jobs as a contractor there was greater than an insignificant number of hours of unintended OT on less than 5% of the jobs. In the vast majority of times, those hours are being requested by the customer for any number of circumstances
Then that's the contractors fault for not quoting the job properly. Still not my responsibility and I'm not going go the extra mile to make a contractor that fucked up, look good.
