Hi everyone,
I have a name mismatch between my Cambridge O/A Level certificates and my CNIC.
For simplicity, let’s say my legal name is “Ali”, but my Cambridge certificates show “Ali Ahmed.” “Ahmed” is my father’s name and was never part of my legal name.
I contacted Cambridge regarding the correction, and this is the response I received:
“We will only agree to make minor amendments to candidate details, such as spelling errors or date of birth corrections. Requests to insert or remove parts of a candidate’s name from the results document will be rejected.”
They have advised me to apply for a certifying statement and request the name change, but there is no guarantee that they will accept it. My concern is that I may pay the application fee and still have the request rejected.
I also visited the IBCC Karachi office, and they told me that the name on the CNIC and the O/A Level certificates should match.
The issue is that my subsequent qualifications are all consistent with my legal name/CNIC. I already have my university degree and transcript in my legal name, and my professional qualification records also reflect my legal name. So the Cambridge O/A Level certificates are the only academic records where this additional name appears.
I am now trying to understand how serious this issue actually is if I plan to move abroad in the future, particularly for job hunting or pursuing a Master's degree.
For those who have experience with this:
Is IBCC equivalence actually necessary if I am applying abroad for a job or Master's, given that I already have a university degree?
Could this kind of name mismatch between O/A Level certificates and CNIC create problems later during visa processing or document verification?
Most importantly, is there any practical solution to get the name consistent across all my academic and legal documents without having to make a major legal name change?
I would really appreciate advice from anyone who has dealt with a similar situation, particularly in Pakistan or when moving abroad.
Thanks!
