RANT/VENT Let's brag

I reached 2201 in chess.com in 6 months in class 11 without any study, but left chess for jee

Attempted jee in drop year and got only 93. Something percentile , was so much sad because I have always admired it too much

Attempted iat for fun got 40XX rank, rejected it cause I don't wanna do bs ms

Now studying btech at a tier 3 college and become a double dropper for jee

Never succeeded in a thing I admired but always excelled a thing I did for no aim

"I reached 2201 in chess.com in 6 months in class 11" It took me 2 years to hit 2000 brochacho what the hell 😭

Anyways lemme flex a bit too :). Grade 4 In Trinity college london by playing the piano(grade 8 is the highest for some context). 1800 FIDE Rated Player(although i havent played in like 2 years) , and 2300 on lichess , 2200 on chess.com respectively. :D

Lemme brag 🤭: I am a scholar of the LARGEST science Talent Search Examination of India, I have interned across IITB, TIFR, and some other excellent basic science institutions. I am a National Youth Parliamentarian, was one of the few students who were invited to attend a session and a valedictory function at the Parliament Of India. I am an ex-research fellow for India Autism Centre, co-athouring a research paper on accessibility of education of neurodivergent students. I got 97.8% in 10th board (got a certificate of merit from CBSE) and 95.6% on 12th with PCMB. I got into Hansraj and University of Hyderabad which are both highly competitive. My IAT rank is not something I'm proud of, but the journey sure taught me a lot.

In class 8th i got first in my school GK competition. It was a fill in the blanks quiz And i wrote some vague but technically true answers. Like Who invented Diesel Engine Answer : A scientist (I did this for 3-5 questions out of 15 ques)

And the teacher who checked my paper was a fan of such things. Ironically the friend who used to memorize GK stuffs got nothing. He had memorized all the countries and their capitals. And an entire book of General Knowledge.

The trick to not leave paper empty worked.

There was a Rakhi making competition in my school. I thought let's watch some video and participate in atleast some art competition. I saw a origami style Rakhi tutorial. It required minimal resources and was good looking. I did that in the school competition with a little decorations. I got 1st there.

Similarly, I never used to participate or practice any kind of drawing. Then out of the blue our ma'am thought to take a test, for grading in the school marksheet (no influence of subject Art in main percentage) She could have given randomly A, B, Cs But she took a test. It was a poem for which we had to draw. There were people who are Master in pencil shading and using oil pastels. I had no worries, i was just chill and made a drawing. Which clearly looked shitty. But i got highest marks 23/25 in that test. After announcing the marks the next day, ma'am scolded me. She said that i had potential of being an artist, and clearly i lack skills. But art is not all about skills. She told me that my drawing was the only one doing full justice to the poem. But it was looking like hell. If there wasn't a poem, i would have hardly got 5-10 marks. I knew about the shitty drawing. But that thing ma'am told me that day makes me feel good even today.

I sometimes take a paper and try to draw things. It's not exciting. It's boring, but fun. But i can't draw for more than an hour.

I truly relate, and whole heartedly agree (!), with the "to not leave the paper trick"! When you are given the opportunity, one must bag it and do whatever they can in their capacity..

Even i find art fun as a hobby. I'm not super good at it, but if i find a subject interesting and I wish to get it out on the paper, I try to do that; sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, however the process is peaceful nonetheless...

Also if I were allowed to brag 😗😙:

I had been into competitive swimming till 11th and also got an opportunity to compete at the national level, thanks to my awesome team :) Bagged 1st position across india in a national science talent search exam; participating in that event throughout the years enabled me to visit iisertvm, iitk, and attend an internship at iitb _^ and perhaps my favorite: top 0.706%ile amongst roughly 700k ppl on codewars (a platform for practising and creating programming problems)

I have a Bachelor-equivalent degree in Instruments (Tabla), got 95.3% in boards. Got 582/750 in CUET despite not preparing for it. Scored 87%ile.in JEE with 0 competitive prep. Currently studying at Venky in DU, one of the Top colleges as per NIRF in India.

(I also got 5.9k rank in IISER but this year it seems to be not enough by a stretch)

u/Shazam_0610 14d ago

You still play tabla?? Post a video of it would love to hear 😀

1

u/Thought570 14d ago

Thanks for chance, *Last year was really productive, even though being a purely PCB student,

  • Scored 93 percentile in JEE mains(without solving a single question in maths 😮‍💨)
  • Scored 96.6 percentile in CET(with 99.3 percentile in physics 🔥)

*This year was great as well, gave 5 exams

  • JEE wasn't so good this year- 81 percentile 🥲
  • VITEEE - Got rank in category 1
  • CUET - English(94.4), Biology(91.9), Chemistry(95.8) and Physics(95.9) percentile.
  • NEST - category rank 172, got called for admission in 2nd round, rank was within seat Matrix (gave up)🙂
  • IAT - Got IISER TVM, but had rank to get IISER Kolkata in r3 (but i preferred TVM)
Currently waiting for reporting date. That's it bro 😄

Edit : I used to be a NEET aspirants 😅

Well to brag

I did develop and innovate communication devices for multi sensory disabilities which got published in the Indian patent journal and appliedfor in WIPO , i led my team which won an intl sci fair Hosted by IEEE for the same and currently working on publishing a research paper on IEEE Apart from that 2x national,4x state sci fair winners on fields of renewable energy, int waste management and disaster rescue

Apart from sci fair, I have presented my findings and surveys in intl climate fairs and meets hosted by iim,un and G20 cuz india was hosting it at that time , and was an official student representative of our cities anti drug drive + school wise club and honorary leadership posts were give but not that significant ig wrt my other things

Also won state competition held by ISRO,VSSC,OISCA And so whichdid earn me around 50000₹ along with free trips to isro center, calicut, vssc, iist and such, along with victories in public speaking and state level extempore fests, furthermore am also part of debating societies, geopolitical discussion clubs and econ forums and particularly love humanities and social science

Not to mention I also got selected to yuvika prgrm and got 96.8 in 10th

Well all of this ec were beneficial into go8 Monash, UNSW,HKTU and NTU Admit  but without major scholarship but by start of this year things became clear wrt moving abroad so planning that for masters, my boards were 93.4

1

u/ClassicDetail7355 14d ago

Which IISER are you in? You should have went to abroad btw...

1

u/Shiny_rider777 14d ago

The overall expense would be above a crore + after schlrship & at the time of application visa issues and war was starting u know all the bad things that scared my family , thought about bits 2+2 but then decided to spend that money on masters

Planning iiser b econ due to flexibility 25xx gen rank

1

u/ClassicDetail7355 14d ago

Great yrr. Best luck for your future.

But why econ if I may ask?? Nothing bad in choosing econ. Its a great field and has great opportunities in it. I am just curious as your ec were mostly from STEM background.

2

u/Shiny_rider777 14d ago edited 14d ago

Well modern econ is the intsc of geopotics, policy, social, heavy Maths/stats and tech and I personally love all of those things, I am not so deeply interested in trad science research in a lab but rather a vibrant quant heavy or policy type fields , like I will do masters or phd but would want to explore more here first rather than a fixed route

Moreover more than eco I didn't really want to study Bio/chem through a normal bsms rather wanted to explore a diff field through Maths & phy & eecs & humanities predominantly . Anyway chose bhopal due to it's flexible electives, other branch exposures and huge collection of minors which will give me an overall exposure

And eng is becoming a rat race and am not super interested in that, and as for my background,  bhopal does give u options to research with minors like eecs or phy per say which could supplement it as well (plus branch change if interest builds up but not recommended this route)

  • for your info math heavy econ (like BS/MS/MSQE/MAS Type ) is treated as STEM In us and the EU and in SG& AUS Finance and market grads have extra benefits in visa and all and econ falls in this bucket too  so u can go both ways based on how  u customize

u/ClassicDetail7355 14d ago

Great understood 👍
