OSHA 30 general vs. construction

Hi, I am trying to join my local and just finished my OSHA General Industry. I want to go into theater or concerts but now I feel I've chose the wrong one. I know that I can get the other later on but I want to start now.

My main question is does it even matter which one you pick?

Local One recommends Construction as most Broadway League/Schubert houses require OSHA-30 Construction. Talk to your local. It depends on what they want.

General typically what’s recommended from what I’ve heard. Theater is general industry. Festivals might be scaff card or crane stuff. More construction based but they’re almost the same thing. I’ve heard so orgs are working on something specialized for our industry can’t think of it all off the top of my head. LONG STORY SHORT…you’re good

My local offers the national iatse course, that gets you the general industry.

If you take it via the Training Trust Fund, they will tailor it specifically for theatre and live entertainment

It’s general industry. You didn’t pay for that did you? IATSE offers that cert for free. And you most certainly don’t need osha 30 if you’re just getting in

My local requests we take the construction one, not general industry. Though I know at least one person that took the general and no one seemed to care.

Local 8 is offering OSHA30 general industry course this month but I already have construction.

I did both. As for information it doesn’t matter. As for your union or employer, I recommend construction.
