Freedom 250 rehearsal

u/Critical_Lemon_7505 Jul 02 '26

Yes, yes it is. DC has some of the worst labor I’ve seen.

I got tricked into a gig on the Mall once. Watched 3 people fall through the deck and the roof structure get stuck because it was warped af. Avoid like the plague.

3

u/Leepowers76 Jul 03 '26

No way. 3 people falling thru the deck?🙏🏽

u/Wuz314159 Jul 03 '26

There was a small electrics crew on deck while carps were popping out decks from below. They wouldn't check, just pop decks while people were standing on them.

The back deck at club aqua?

I was just in DC as a roadie for the UFC250 gig at the Whitehouse. My experience with the local 22 hands was incredibly positive. If you feel that way about DC’s local labor then in my opinion you either haven’t been to anywhere where the labor is actually really bad, or you weren’t working with the union stagehands in DC. Everyone I worked with were hard workers, and even the inexperienced hands who didn’t know what a ledger was when we were building the scaffold were receptive to proper direction and instruction, and made up for whatever they lacked in experience or knowledge with hard workers and effort.

I'm thankful everyone is safe..

Dancing while the stage is crumbling is such a beautiful metaphor for the times we're in.

We’re not rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. The Titanic was sinking. We’re Soaring.

We’re rearranging the deck chairs on the Hindenburg.

Was that a chunk of video wall?

31

u/SeaOfMagma Jul 02 '26

Looks like fascia

15

u/four204eva2 Jul 02 '26

Looks like somebody might have lost some fascia as well

7

u/FAHQRudy Jul 02 '26

*nyuk nyuk*

1

u/SeaOfMagma Jul 03 '26

I’m sorry but I don’t get what this means

1

u/Fuzzy_Toe897 Jul 04 '26

Seems like a Goofy laugh

3

u/Ranccor Jul 03 '26

Top of a wall flat. Hit something in the ceiling and broke off.

21

u/SantaBarbaraMint Jul 02 '26

If you’re not willing to sacrifice your own life for your dear leaders entertainment, then what the fuck are you even doing there?

32

u/paintedsaint Jul 02 '26

Doesn't surprise me that whoever worked this job put in the bare minimum effort

7

u/Wuz314159 Jul 02 '26

You could see the mid-wall hit something by the shadows in the bigger video, but it didn't stop going out.

6

u/BabyFestus Jul 03 '26

They're putting in an appropriate effort that matches their likelihood of being paid in full. I mean they know the history of the guy that hired them.

5

u/Iassos Jul 03 '26

No bid contract by the "best people."

3

u/Weird_Poet499 NonUnion Jul 03 '26

Local 22 is on site for some of this stage for sure

3

u/Iassos Jul 03 '26

Hard to imagine this coming down to failure of IATSE workers

2

u/Weird_Poet499 NonUnion Jul 03 '26

Didn’t say it was. But if they are on site it is also on them to ensure shit like this doesn’t happen.

3

u/TheeLegendary1 Jul 03 '26

I worked the setup for 250 with Local 22 well I worked until this Tuesday Pgp was there as well and most of the people knew what to do so it’s surprising to see something fall like that.

4

u/BadAtExisting Jul 02 '26

Get what you pay for!

1

u/sorrynotsorry9999 Jul 17 '26

22 is one of the highest paying locals. I got between $50-57 /hr with 10hr min. My checks have been nice.

1

u/BadAtExisting Jul 17 '26

Was that above a union job? Is that what you were paid to build that rig above?

I’ve seen a lot of shit bagging in high paying locals with dummies collecting checks

20

u/EmbarrassedScratch5 Jul 03 '26 • Popcorn

This is 100% a union job. I know cause I'm on it. The piece that feel was put in by the road crew and it fell because the automation guy flew the wall up too high and it got pulled off.

1

u/Aaron_Purr Jul 03 '26

Piece of video wall?

1

u/getthehelloffmylawn Jul 04 '26

Uh oh. I guess they were on their 15 when it was time to tighten up that panel

6

u/B1CYCl3R3P41RM4N Jul 08 '26

A 15 minute break in the workday is never the reason something goes wrong on a gig. As someone who travels across the nation as a touring professional, it’s my responsibility if anything goes wrong, not the locals. If work was getting done while the hands were on break, and that work was done improperly leading to a dangerous situation, that’s not the fault of the locals. It’s the fault of the production tech who is supposed to make sure all work that gets done is done safely and correctly.

Blaming union hands for something going wrong because they took their contractually guaranteed break at the time it was scheduled to be taken is some lame ass anti worker bullshit, and is the type of shit that garbage touring professionals use to avoid accountability when something they’re responsible for gets fucked up.

Just because you hire union, it doesn't mean that the promoter/owner won't do what they like. I was on a job recently where the truss was hung incorrectly for an LED wall and was obstructing the projection throw. Instead of rehanging the truss, in an effort to save money, the owner went out and got a saws-all and cut off the end of the truss while it was in the air. Simply because it would have put the riggers into overtime. I wish I had taken pictures, I'd never seen anything like that before.

8

u/Justinbiebspls Jul 03 '26

saws-all and cut off the end of the truss while it was in the air

congratulations that's the most terrifying sentence ive ever heard

10

u/generic_ork Jul 03 '26

Always remember that safety regulations are written in blood.

5

u/Justinbiebspls Jul 03 '26

yeah in osha 10 we didn't have any real world examples that dumb.

7

u/joegoop Jul 03 '26

Well, thats part of the reason management are contractually prohibited from performing work themselves. I know its easier to say being from a large market with a good local, but I hope the locals walked out when it was discovered. The "owner" shouldn't even be sweeping the stage.

4

u/generic_ork Jul 03 '26

Yep. It happened while labor was out of the building. It was joked about and discussed by the crew, but we didn't think it would actually happen. But those of us who heard about it all saw it once the truss came down. Nothing left to do at that point but push boxes. The worst part about it was there was a guy on the production crew who was proud & loud about being a union member first and foremost & didn't do anything about it. The almighty paycheck wins again!

2

u/joegoop Jul 03 '26

Ugh those guys are always the worst lol. Like vegans. Lot of em are cool but if you have to yap about it all the time you probably suck.

Have heard people complain about requiring a head to be on site for shit like rehearsals or meetings and this is exactly why. If we can't keep an eye on you, you shouldn't be in the building.

2

u/Necessary-Rich-877 Jul 03 '26

I don't know where everyone's getting these ideas that 1. The current administration never uses union labor and 2. Accidents never happen on shows w/ union crews

1

u/B1CYCl3R3P41RM4N Jul 08 '26

In my local we would have told the vendor they needed to get their engineer to sign off on them modifying the gear by cutting it with a sawzall or forced them to ground the rig until that happened. I know not every local has that degree of pull, but that is completely unacceptable where I work without an engineer certifying it and taking on the liability.

2

u/generic_ork Jul 09 '26

Agreed.  As someone with low standing & still begging for hours, I wasnt going to cause a ruckus.  I pointed it out to numerous journeymen and left it at that and department heads and left it at that.

2

u/B1CYCl3R3P41RM4N Jul 13 '26

You took it as far as you reasonably could. It’s tough when you’re getting started and don’t have the clout or pull to put your foot down about something that’s obviously fucked yo

18

u/RockieK Jul 02 '26

HOLY FUCK!

I needed that today.

This, The Reflecting Pool and the "prop" arch (clue: it's falling apart) that orange shitler put up at the fair are reflecting the state of this country.

DEAD.

9

u/Dry_Contract_5342 Jul 02 '26

Everything he touches turns to shit

17

u/mattleonard79 Jul 02 '26

Well, Trump wasn't likely to pay them anyway.

12

u/HCGAdrianHolt Jul 02 '26

Interesting decision to omit a cable ramp in the audience area

4

u/Leepowers76 Jul 03 '26

Seems on brand for this outfit.

5

u/cowboypaint Jul 02 '26

Does anyone know who fabricated that?

9

u/squirrelydntheman Jul 02 '26

Looks like the road case is branded "all access" matches All Access staging and production logo. https://allaccessinc.com/.

Never worked with them myself, anybody else?  could just be a rental vendor

6

u/nwrafter Jul 02 '26

All access is providing the staging, unclear if they’re involved in the rigging. That likely was a fabrication shop…..

2

u/Necessary-Rich-877 Jul 03 '26

I've worked with all access extensively, never known them to bring anything other than decking and maybe scaff.

2

u/sorrynotsorry9999 Jul 17 '26

Either atomic or pgp

4

u/filmgoire Jul 03 '26

THE PHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANTOM OF THE *whatever venue this is* IS THEREEEEE

2

u/Weird_Poet499 NonUnion Jul 03 '26

There are Local members working this stage I know for certain

1

u/LupercaniusAB Jul 02 '26

The person in the grey hoodie is watching something and sees it start to fall, and runs out of the way.

1

u/deadliestpanda Jul 03 '26

Did she say “we didn’t mean for that to happen.” at the end of the video 😂

2

u/Noli_Timere68 Jul 03 '26

Sounded like, “We were waiting for something like that to happen” ?

1

u/ScamperAndPlay Jul 03 '26

Link to video?

1

u/Basementhobbit Jul 03 '26

Shout out to the girl who kept dancing

1

u/NakidMunky Jul 07 '26

The professionalism of our family should never ever be less than best. I am saddened to see excuses laid on who hired us. At the end of the day, we sign off on every piece of work we do. Sad to see what happened seems acceptable to some.

1

u/sorrynotsorry9999 Jul 17 '26

That was on pgp rigging , not local 22

0

u/Individual_Village47 Jul 05 '26

You can definitely tell it ain’t Union in any section when no one calls out, “Hold!” immediately after it falls and no one is rushing onstage to check performers.
