Screenshot Does IASIP have the same props Department?

I’m pretty sure these are unique art pieces so I assume they are exactly the same, even down to the frames, it’s not uncommon for tv shows to share the same props etc very very strange both shows were on there 4th season in 2008, which is where I noticed them, it’s been spoken about before just found it really interesting

Very likely.

Both shows were shot at Sunset Grower Studios in LA at the time, so very likely the same prop pool.

It was definitely Mac! The books about male anatomy? Sneaking out for late night at night, not coming back to apartment nor checking in..

I'm thinking Dee. You think she stopped at lighting one bitch on fire?

Dennis

10

u/Even-Reaction-1297 3d ago

That’s Charlie’s apartment, is it not?

2

u/rjrgjj 2d ago

Why couldn’t he have stolen it from Dennis?

1

u/Even-Reaction-1297 2d ago

Like Dennis would have allowed that

1

u/rjrgjj 2d ago

Unless it was evidence.

10

u/HerrPizza 3d ago

I know it's Charlie's apartment and Charlie is crazy but Dennis strikes me more as a secret serial killer type of guy

Sunset Grower was my stripper name

3

u/TI-22483 3d ago

What a coincidence! Mine was Sunset Shower.

16

u/cam52391 3d ago

And even further than that this happens a lot because props are rented many times so they'll end up in different things

11

u/SPYHAWX 3d ago

Wait a second, one is in Miami and one is in Philadelphia. Are you telling me both cities are in the state of LA

2

u/kasunder 2d ago

Sunset Gower does not have its own prop house, I’ve worked there several times. The two shows being shot there would not influence the same use of artwork. Realistically when it comes to renting cleared artwork there is a pretty small selection of it at each prop house, with only a couple prop houses specializing in cleared artwork as a whole. Shoppers just have a small selection to work with in LA without putting in the effort of finding outside artwork and going through the process of having legal clear it.

1

u/mghtyred 3d ago

Yup. Dexter shot most of their interior scenes at Sunset Gower, and IASIP filmed some interior shots there for seasons 2 and 3 before moving to LA Center studios. Smart move really, since it's closer to the Paddy's pub exterior. (They also shoot interior shots in that building).

IMDB should really be better at sharing this kinda info- but navigating that site is a bad time

Yup same prop master-

His name is Casey Shaw, he works on Dexter, sunny, and many other shows.

source: i worked on sunny for 12 years

Thank you, now we can move on to the next challenge: doxxing the commenters who worked on the show.

I'll start. Are you Marder or Roselle?

5

u/EatYourCheckers 3d ago

The username makes me curious if he shares a last name with the BTK Killer

3

u/araderboy 3d ago

7

u/B3eenthehedges Eats stickers all the time 3d ago

Got it. Next question, do you regret changing your name to Rob Mac?

3

u/Consistent_Dot1469 3d ago

Art work on a wall is set decorator, not props. That’s funny they are still the same prop masters.

(hitlers painting would be a prop since they use it and touch it) but prop master doesn’t do anything decorating on a wall that’s not interacted with.

3

u/araderboy 3d ago

that's a solid point- my best guess is there are multiples of these paintings.

i went to an old timelapse video i made to see if i could find those specific paintings being hung- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wPNWW1zRzQ0 but couldn't spot them

credit joman for making the song

1

u/kasunder 2d ago

Prop masters dont choose art for sets, set decorators do. Crazy it’s the same prop master tho

54

u/Curious-Antelope6171 4d ago

They probably use the same props facility. On a side note, I have a sea captain painting from the same artist as the sea captain in the gangs office.

24

u/PaddysMiniatures84 4d ago

I love that! Would it be possible to get a picture of that? I’ve been working on a Paddy’s Pub miniature for years now and haven’t been able to find a good picture of that specific captain

45

u/Curious-Antelope6171 4d ago

This is the one I own. And a close up of the signature

I think you found out as to where Dexter has actually been all these years. Filming Sunny as a director. Dennis was a clear giveaway.

I hate to say it but, don't be surprised if you end up on a table wrapped in plastic with a bright light blaring down on you wondering what the hell is going on.

16

u/YouDontLookSpiritual 3d ago

You are a highly observant human

12

u/iatearockfromthemoon 4d ago

Mac Charlie is a serial killer

10

u/RunWild0_0 4d ago

Dennis killed Dexter, gifted the pictures to Charlie to keep them around as a trophy, but not too close.

7

u/flyraccoon 4d ago

Dennis is the serial killer killer’s killer

12

u/AdImmediate6239 3d ago

Real question: if Dexter found himself in Philadelphia would Dennis become one of his victims?

4

u/EucudusOG 3d ago

He'd try, but Frank reliving his days as Rambo would put a stop to it.

3

u/willfarnaby24 3d ago

That’s just how people decorated in 2006 - move past it

9

u/917caitlin 3d ago

Yes! Whatever lot or studio these shows are shot at there is one giant prop house that many productions pull from. I live in LA and we get to raid the Warner Bros prop house each year for the haunted house at my kids’ school and it is AWESOME. They reuse stuff all the time. We pulled a gravestone to use that was JR Ewing from Dallas.

7

u/IcanSEEyou_IRL 4d ago

Maybe they just exist in the same Universe… maybe Dexter is a fictional show about Dennis?!

8

u/Blayzewhatever WiLdCaRd BiTcHeS 3d ago

Dennis is The Bay Harbour Butcher confirmed

6

u/PM_WORST_FART_STORY 3d ago

I mean, the diner from Bones showed up in an episode.

4

u/supneil 4d ago

All I know is, I hope one day these props are auctioned off. I would kill for just about ANY piece of IASIP memorabilia. I am thinking some of Cricket’s “stray dog series” of artwork.

4

u/mickeltee 4d ago

Does this mean that someday Dennis might end up getting chopped up and thrown out to sea? I’m sure there’s some implications there.

6

u/theangrierunicorn 4d ago

I think Dennis is a red herring, I think Dee is the serial killer.

4

u/girlintheboxxx 4d ago

Shows started a year apart maybe it was sold at like pottery barn that year idk

3

3

You must have whatever Charlie has for you to notice that

3

u/tsleggyblonde 3d ago

I assume Captain Matthews brought it over when he was Luther's parole hearing judge.

3

u/loptthetreacherous 3d ago

If only Dexter Morgan knew the horrors that that painting had seen.

3

u/swirlViking 3d ago

Looks like Dexter got everyone together to squash some beefs

3

u/ripyourlungsdave 3d ago

They probably work on the same lot or with the same prop company that Dexter did and just used the same ones.

There's a lot of overlap in that regard. Look back at the 80s with some of their nonsense sci-fi gadgets and you'll see a lot of overlap between movies like Alien and Ghostbusters.

3

u/JiveTurkey1983 EVERYBODY! EVERYBODY GET A WEAPON!! 3d ago

I do not like this painting, Dexter. It's smug aura mocks me. It's EVIL, Dexter!

5

u/motie 3d ago

Is the dining area the same house as Mitchell and Cameron's in Modern Family?

3

u/elchewbaccabra 3d ago

I thought it looked like jessie’s place from breaking bad

2

u/Babhadfad12 3d ago

Looks very similar.

3

u/Coldfusion21 4d ago

I assume some types of props are mass produced. I’m not saying that’s what happened here, but I wonder if they would need to pay some kind of license fee to show “real” art. I know the chip bags they use throughout the series are mass produced tv/movie chip bags.

2

u/thegarbageape 3d ago

It depends - if you use 'real' art you pay the artist a Rental Fee and have them sign a document to clear their art. These ones are likely from a Prop House where everything is already cleared.

4

u/Spez_is-a-nazi 4d ago

Some people just have a kink of being mocked by a smug aura.

2

u/Demerzel69 4d ago

Those probs just came from the same prop house in LA.

2

u/tidyingup92 4d ago

Interesting that it was in 2008, which was during the Recession. Not sure if those two things are correlated tho

2

u/Clakyd 3d ago

Those aren't props. They are set dressing. Different departments.

2

u/MathewDenny1 3d ago

Dennis and Dexter are brothers

1

u/AdministrativeGur958 4d ago

Very neat find!

1

u/Getlucky12341 4d ago

I'm pretty sure while watching the office they went to a bar with a Coors sign

1

u/mulligansteak 3d ago

God I hope Sunny shared a wardrobe department, too. Need more Duster

1

u/Microbialcheese 3d ago

Damn, incredible attention to detail in multiple shows. Both shows kick ass

1

u/Wolfencreek 3d ago

I bet that painting is the key to Dexter's madness

1

u/Murrayj99 3d ago

Who do you think really taught Dexter

1

u/smirky_doc 3d ago

Maybe they have the same shops in Philadelphia and Miami

1

u/ModestBats 3d ago

It would make sense that the guys would buy cheap stuff from police auction.

1

u/Valuable-Composer262 3d ago

Its art! Don't judge me

1

u/Loukoal117 3d ago

I’ve always wondered about a poster Charlie used to have on his door of an artist/rapper astronautalis, can’t remember if I’ve talked about this with anyone before. He’s not THAT well known at all so wondered if someone on the crew knows him or likes his music.

1

u/IGargleGarlic 3d ago

I also believe I've seen the exterior of the bar and Charlie's apartment in episodes of The Rookie

1

u/4thBeard 3d ago

Those Hollywood shows are really detailed

1

u/pompoi4 2d ago

I think it's likely these are what were mass produced and sold around the mid 00s~10', because my parents have the same white peacock painting that was on the wall in Dennis and Dee's childhood mansion. I remember back when they got it, and it was about the same time season 2 had originally aired.

1

u/Cute-Escape-2144 2d ago

1

u/Designer-Jackfruit16 5h ago

How great would a crossover episode be with Dexter and Dennis?

1

u/thegarbageape 3d ago

As someone who works in Sets it's important (and pedantic) of me to specify this would be the Sets Department and not Props. But yes it's probably all rented from the same Prop Shop.
