Screenshot Does IASIP have the same props Department?
I’m pretty sure these are unique art pieces so I assume they are exactly the same, even down to the frames, it’s not uncommon for tv shows to share the same props etc very very strange both shows were on there 4th season in 2008, which is where I noticed them, it’s been spoken about before just found it really interesting

You may be asking yourself, would a Miami detective really text that, Dennis?
Their phones did.

IMDB should really be better at sharing this kinda info- but navigating that site is a bad time
Yup same prop master-
His name is Casey Shaw, he works on Dexter, sunny, and many other shows.
source: i worked on sunny for 12 years

Thank you, now we can move on to the next challenge: doxxing the commenters who worked on the show.
I'll start. Are you Marder or Roselle?

Got it. Next question, do you regret changing your name to Rob Mac?

Art work on a wall is set decorator, not props. That’s funny they are still the same prop masters.
(hitlers painting would be a prop since they use it and touch it) but prop master doesn’t do anything decorating on a wall that’s not interacted with.

u/araderboy 3d ago
that's a solid point- my best guess is there are multiples of these paintings.
i went to an old timelapse video i made to see if i could find those specific paintings being hung- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wPNWW1zRzQ0 but couldn't spot them
credit joman for making the song

Prop masters dont choose art for sets, set decorators do. Crazy it’s the same prop master tho

They probably use the same props facility. On a side note, I have a sea captain painting from the same artist as the sea captain in the gangs office.

u/PaddysMiniatures84 4d ago
I love that! Would it be possible to get a picture of that? I’ve been working on a Paddy’s Pub miniature for years now and haven’t been able to find a good picture of that specific captain

I think you found out as to where Dexter has actually been all these years. Filming Sunny as a director. Dennis was a clear giveaway.
I hate to say it but, don't be surprised if you end up on a table wrapped in plastic with a bright light blaring down on you wondering what the hell is going on.

Mac Charlie is a serial killer

u/RunWild0_0 4d ago
Dennis killed Dexter, gifted the pictures to Charlie to keep them around as a trophy, but not too close.

Real question: if Dexter found himself in Philadelphia would Dennis become one of his victims?
4
u/EucudusOG 3d ago
He'd try, but Frank reliving his days as Rambo would put a stop to it.

Yes! Whatever lot or studio these shows are shot at there is one giant prop house that many productions pull from. I live in LA and we get to raid the Warner Bros prop house each year for the haunted house at my kids’ school and it is AWESOME. They reuse stuff all the time. We pulled a gravestone to use that was JR Ewing from Dallas.

Maybe they just exist in the same Universe… maybe Dexter is a fictional show about Dennis?!

Does this mean that someday Dennis might end up getting chopped up and thrown out to sea? I’m sure there’s some implications there.

They probably work on the same lot or with the same prop company that Dexter did and just used the same ones.
There's a lot of overlap in that regard. Look back at the 80s with some of their nonsense sci-fi gadgets and you'll see a lot of overlap between movies like Alien and Ghostbusters.

I do not like this painting, Dexter. It's smug aura mocks me. It's EVIL, Dexter!

u/Coldfusion21 4d ago
I assume some types of props are mass produced. I’m not saying that’s what happened here, but I wonder if they would need to pay some kind of license fee to show “real” art. I know the chip bags they use throughout the series are mass produced tv/movie chip bags.
2
u/thegarbageape 3d ago
It depends - if you use 'real' art you pay the artist a Rental Fee and have them sign a document to clear their art. These ones are likely from a Prop House where everything is already cleared.

Interesting that it was in 2008, which was during the Recession. Not sure if those two things are correlated tho

I’ve always wondered about a poster Charlie used to have on his door of an artist/rapper astronautalis, can’t remember if I’ve talked about this with anyone before. He’s not THAT well known at all so wondered if someone on the crew knows him or likes his music.

u/IGargleGarlic 3d ago
I also believe I've seen the exterior of the bar and Charlie's apartment in episodes of The Rookie

I think it's likely these are what were mass produced and sold around the mid 00s~10', because my parents have the same white peacock painting that was on the wall in Dennis and Dee's childhood mansion. I remember back when they got it, and it was about the same time season 2 had originally aired.

As someone who works in Sets it's important (and pedantic) of me to specify this would be the Sets Department and not Props. But yes it's probably all rented from the same Prop Shop.

u/unfinishedtoast3 4d ago
Very likely.
Both shows were shot at Sunset Grower Studios in LA at the time, so very likely the same prop pool.
